  1. Impressive
It highlights a good many of the main events of the movie, and hints at many of the smaller, nigglier details. I look forward to seeing the final result.

Very cool. Recognizing those scenes clearly from the book is a testament to the movie makers and visual designers. Kudos!

The kids are really not looking like kids anymore though. Ron, especially, is not a convincing 15 year old.

  3. Well
It’s actually possible they might have done it right this time. I was anticipating another Prisoner of Azkaban-style disaster. Maybe I will go and see it after all.

    Direct QT link

This is the way trailers should be: it shows bits from throughout the movie without giving any of it away. I’m still concerned about how much they’re going to have to leave out to squeeze 800 pages into 2+ hours, but it does look good…

I recently (with the last two months) reread GoF, and one thing I noticed was there are a lot of subplots that fill up the book. Stuff that won’t matter a lot if they’re cut. I do know that this movie starts at the Quidditch World Cup, dropping all the time from the Dursley’s and the Burrough. That guts a number of chapters just like that.

I would think they’ll start at the Burrough, though maybe late in the visit, as the portkey introduction is critical to the ending. I think it would be too convoluted to explain it when they’re leaving the world cup.

That would be ‘The Burrow’. Or did they change that in the American edition?

I just saw something in the trailer, watching it again with my sister (who said ‘meh’), that worries me a lot. There’s a lot of pointless dramatisation of the arrival of the Beauxbatons carriage, and a brief shot of Hagrid ducking out of the way, having apparently tried to wave it in with two sticks like at an airport. Why is this there? What does it add to the film except a completely inappropriate sense of farce? I’m getting sinking feelings again.

Also, my sister and I think that Freddie Highmore (Charlie in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) would have done a much better Harry Potter than Daniel Radcliffe has. Unfortunately when they were casting, he was probably still being potty trained.

Sorry, I was just being a lemming and following what was there before. You’re right, of course.

A little over the top, but I don’t think it’s major issue as long as they don’t do it throughout.

I haven’t seen Charlie, but I have to disagree completely: I think Daniel is a perfect Harry Potter.

I read somewhere that they are cutting out Hermione’s whole S.P.E.W. quest to free the house elves. That should free up quite a few chapters worth of content too.

Good. Is it wrong of me that I hated that part of the book? I thought it made Hermione go from being slightly quixotic to completely annoying – plus it should lessen Dobby’s time on screen.

Good. It’s relevant in the book, I feel, but couldn’t be handled well in the film at all as they’d need to add at least an extra hour to it.

I’ll say good too — it was a little silly, rather annoying, and she’s never really gone anywhere with it in the books anyhow.
