Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “We have two incredibly good releases on the anime front this week. Dororo is an incredibly solid adaptation of Tezuka’s work, adapting some of the more wild tonal swings of the original series (which came out in the ’60s) and adapting it a modern 2D animation style, while still preserving Tezuka’s look. On the other hand, Memories is probably one of the best anthology films of all time, and “Magnetic Rose” in particular, is a pure work of beauty, both visually and narratively. I can confidently recommend both works to viewers in general – not just those who are fans of anime.” Blaine says, “I haven’t seen My Little Chickadee for about 30 years, but I remember enjoying it. That might be because I was around 10, and it pushed all sorts of limits at the time. Mae West stars in half a dozen movies that are out this week, and she was controversial for having the audacity to say women should enjoy the same sexual freedoms as men.”
