Comments | Blaine: I originally thought that this was the original, but then I noticed it stars Bonnie Langford. Therefore, it can’t be the one 80 years old. (Langford is best known as Mel Bush to Doctor Who fans, companion to Doctors 6 and 7, who excelled at screaming, wearing tight pants, and not much else.) | ||||||||

Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “If the earlier Blu-Ray Escaflowne releases from Funimation were a little out of your price range, this week’s re-release is worth picking up. Otherwise, on the 4K front, we have Dr. Strangelove and Space Jam as available options (depending on whether or not you’re looking for a 4K movie to watch with your kids).” Blaine says, “I would also recommend Dr. Strangelove: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb if you are shopping on the 4K front. If not, Bringing Up Baby is one of the greatest screwball comedies of all time, starring Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn, with direction from Howard Hawks.”
Dr. Strangelove is the best of the lot, and one of my favorite films. It holds up despite being very much the product of its time, and features memorable performances, many of them by Peter Sellers.
I recommend Scott Pilgrim vs the World (though it’s not everyone’s thing), an entertaining and original movie with a dream cast and a cult following.
Street Gang: How We Got to Sesame Street sounds interesting, at least.
I absolutely agree with everything you say about Dr. Strangelove, but it’s one of those movies where I’m absolutely not sure you want a 4K release of. The movie was purposefully filmed in very grainy black & white, and you don’t want that looking too sharp.
Kubrick’s estate monitors the transfer closely. The grains will be crystal clear. Present, but crystal clear, just like on my Blu-Ray.
Dr. Strangeloveis a classic and I personally think everyone should watch it. With that said, as I mentioned in another comment, I don’t know tat it benefits from a 4K release.
Also… I mean, who on Earth is going to pay for a 4K release of Howard the Duck??? I was almost hoping there was a remake of it released that I somehow didn’t know about, but no — it’s the original terrible version.
But it’s the first Marvel movie.
Lex is right. Some of us want to own every Marvel movie. Thankfully, I’m happy with my $3.99 Can DVD copy of “Howard the Duck,” so I’m in no rush to pay for 4K or the system to play 4K on just for that title.
