The official website is here (not much there).

Concept sounds generic. No Wayans in sight though, I guess that’s a plus. Didn’t he become an angel or something though? God that movie had a terrible ending.

I have such fond memories of the D&D cartoon, someone should remake that instead of the crappy movie :/

Oh dear. Looks dreadful. Why can’t anybody produce a decent film or book based on D&D? No D&D book I’ve read has stood up for me as a readable piece of fiction since I was twelve, and the film’s simply awful.

It’s most odd, because the storylines in Bioware’s games are pretty good.

The games are good, but several of the books are even better, particularly R.A. Salvatore’s Drizzt books and the Weis and Hickman Dragonlance stuff. What is Wizard’s up to?

Weis and Hickman’s Dragonlance stuff, whilst admittedly better than the movie appears to have been (I haven’t seen it, but I don’t want to after what I’ve read about it), is most of what I was thinking of when saying that it doesn’t stand up for me now I’m not twelve anymore. Everything seems so slavishly rigid to the D&D character classes. I tried reading the start of Dragonlance Legends (I have a copy of the collector’s edition with the trilogy all in one book) not that long ago and simply had to stop, because I find it impossible to accept that Crysania would be so ridiculous. And Raistlin always irritated the heck out of me.

I’m told that the DVD release of the D&D movie had a bunch of deleted scenes that explained EVERYTHING that was missing from the movie. I haven’t had the nerve to rent it, though.

If they did a movie of the cartoon, do you think they’d re-use Ralph Malph and the two youngest boys from Eight is Enough?

The scenes add a little, but not much. It explains Ridley’s deep hatred of mages, but not much else. The commentary states that they ran out of money so they couldn’t include the effects. IMDB has a full list of deleted scenes.

Are there any more symbolic rape scenes with the blue-lipped Fighter? I counted 5 in the theatre… That director chick has issues, man.

The effects that seem the most missing to me were the monsters – they mainly fought just other people; where were the monsters? They even teased us with some monster effects: an orc walks across the background in a tavern scene but doesn’t do anything, and a beholder is seen hovering on guard but instead of showing it doing anything cool they just sneak past it. Part of what makes D&D what it is is the wide variety of monsters, and to just show some people fighting other people misses the spirit of the game.
