September wraps up with a couple of notable items
before the big winter deluge.
First, the genre releases:
- Creature
Comforts – The Complete First Season: A collection
of shorts from
the creators of Wallace and Gromit. - Evil
Dead 2:
Book of the Dead Edition: No picture is available,
but I assume
it’s a repackaging to match the “Book of the Dead”
edition of the
original Evil Dead. - The
Man Who
Fell To Earth: Criterion treatment is always
great. - Spongebob
Squarepants – The Complete Third Season: I’ve
tried to watch this
show, and just don’t understand the popularity. - Star
Trek:
Enterprise Season Three: Sci-fi for the remarkably
well financed. - The
X-Files
Mythology: Collection 3: Continuing the set of
titles that help
bring the total cost of the series down by reducing
the series to the
ongoing episodes.
Now, the non-genre releases:
- Amazing
Race –
Season One: One of a disturbingly large number of
reality shows I
don’t particularly care for. - Beverly
Hillbillies: The Ultimate Collection: 26 episodes
on a 4 DVD set. - The
Complete
Monty Python’s Flying Circus 16-Ton Megaset: The
entire series, in
one sizable box. - Due
South: The Final Season: This Canada-only release
can be shipped
to the U.S. via Amazon.ca. - Gilmore
Girls
– Season Four: A well respected show.
Finally, the pick of the week. Due South was
a great series,
and one of the best series finales I’ve ever seen.
It’s not quite up
to the finales of Angel, Babylon 5,
and Quantum
Leap, but it’s incredibly well suited to the tone
of the series
that it’s a part of. Highly recommended. For those
who haven’t seen
the series, it’s about a mountie who is stuck in
Chicago. Imagine if
Clark Kent were a human police officer, and you’ve
pretty much got a
grip on the character.
Something not in the list…
…and being released on Tuesday is Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin – The Untold Story. I know I’m definitely planning to pick this up as soon as I can.
Re: Something not in the list…
Hey, is this actually something new or just a collection of Stewie-central episodes of Family Guy?
Re: Something not in the list…
It’s new, though apparently it’s been available online for some time, as several of my friends have already seen it. I was under the impression, from what they told me, that it was a movie, though reading the amazon description it seems to be 3 (uncut) episodes that haven’t aired on TV, and it’s unclear if they will be at some point or if they will remain just a dvd release.
Re: Something not in the list…
The one that’s online is entirely new. It’s 1.5 hours long, and doesn’t have any ‘extras’ or credits. It is kinda funny. It does recycle a joke or two from the show, but they’re minor. One question, though (spoiler!!):
The ending was too abrupt, and cheapened the whole, thing, IMO. Stewie kills his ‘near-future self’? Bah.
Huh?
I’m… fairly sure I already have The Complete Flying Circus… I also have the two Live DVDs… basically this is those two wrapped together?…
I used to love Due South. going to have to buy all of those one of these days.
Re: Huh?
That’s what it looks like, though a price reduction came
along with the repackaging.
