Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “El-Hazard was very good show, and I definitely consider the El-Hazard set worth picking up. Otherwise, I’d argue that the Dune Miniseries was superior to the David Lynch film, and that might be worth getting on Blu-Ray.” Blaine says, “I would say the Dune miniseries and Transformers: The Movie (which is still the best theatrical Transformers release) are the best of this week.”
I was going to comment with my thoughts, but Blaine and Alex already said what I would. My only note was that the title of the movie was “The Transformers: The Movie” wasn’t it?
Yes, they made it clear it was a movie because the TV series was still on the air, and came back very, very different for season three.
Luca was good (I probably should have written a review of it). It’s a rehash of stories we’ve already seen (The Little Mermaid for example). But it is Pixar and it is gorgeous to look at. I don’t know if “Out” or “Us Again” is paired with the discs (both were excellent shorts).
I wonder how good a 4K Transformers would look since (I had heard) the master print had been lost/destroyed. All the versions I’ve seen are cropped versions of the Pan-and-Scan VHS version. If they went back to the masters, I would LOVE to see it. (And yes, it is the best big screen Transformers to date).
