Phantom Menace DVD Release Date Set

It’s coming October 16th, amid a flurry of other DVD releases.

Man, I already chunked over $25 for the VHS Special Edition last year. Hopefully the first three will be wandering over to DVD soon. I still don’t have the ‘Special Edition’ versions of them.

  1. From The Official Site…
starwars.com has a nice page detailing all the extras that’ll be in the two-disc set. Lots of documentaries, the “Duel of the Fates” video, plenty of commercials, and in general all the neat stuff fanboys crave.

All I can say is: It’s about frigging time! Now if Lucas
could just around to Episodes IV-VI, instead of waiting for
II and III to be released then converted (as he was
      originally planning to do).

Silly George, DVDs are for kids!

Wow. All that, and it’s missing two of the features I
wanted most. I don’t see an isolated soundtrack of John
Williams score on that list, or Weird Al’s “The Saga
      Begins” video. Oh, well.

For the score, I can’t agree more – but they probably want you to go out
and buy the score CD, at another twenty or so bucks.

They probably just don’t have the rights for “The Saga Begins.” Besides, I
think you can still stream the video from Weird Al’s site.

Okay, I think I fibbed. It’s not apparently there, but it
            is still on
            this other
            Al-approved site
            .

It’s also available on Al’s DVD of several videos. If
the video’s not on the Phantom Menace DVD due to legal
problems getting the rights, I’ll bet it’s because Al’s
lawyers probably wanted to make sure his DVD was the only
one that had it. I think that’s unfortuante, because I
can’t find anyone that sells his DVD, while Phantom Menace
should be relatively easy to come by. He’d get quite a
bit with a small royalty on the Phantom Menace, and they
can wrangle a “originally published on x DVD”
in the liner notes to promote awareness of Al’s video
            collection.
