November is upon, and it brings with it large
quantities of Christmas movies.

First, the genre releases:

  – The Movie: For the anime fans.
• Blizzard:
  This is a holiday movie directed by LeVar Burton.
• Charlie
  and
  the Chocolate Factory: This is a two disk special
  edition of the
  Tim Burton version.
• Chip
  ‘n’ Dale
  Rescue Rangers – Volume One Collection: I had a
  classmate who had
  a crush on Gadget. True story. Also, this was a fun
  cartoon that led
  to a pretty good Nintendo game. Good family fun.
• Chobits
  – The
  Chobits Collection: More anime for the
  collectors.
• A
  Christmas
  Carol (1938): Yet another version of the
  classic.
• The
  Devil’s
  Rejects (Unrated Widescreen Edition): Directed by
  Rob Zombie.
• Doctor
  Who –
  City of Death (Episode 105): Once again, an
  episode can be in
  multiple parts. This is a two DVD set.
• Doctor
  Who –
  The Claws of Axos (Episode 57): I don’t know how
  many DVDs are in
  this set.
• DuckTales
  –
  Volume One: See Launchpad McQuack before he
  started hanging out
  with Darkwing Duck.
• Dungeons
  and
  Dragons 2 – Wrath of the Dragon God: Watch it if
  you can stand
  it.
• Edward
  Scissorhands (Collectible Tin Anniversary
  Edition): This was
  another great Tim Burton film.
• George
  Pal –
  Flights of Fantasy: A three DVD set of some of his
  work, as well
  as a documentary on the man himself.
• Inu-Yasha
  –
  Season 2 Boxed Set: More with the anime.
• Jumanji
  (Deluxe Edition): This was a decent movie from the
  mid 1990s.
• Mutant
  X – The
  Complete Third Season: The show marches on.
• Mystery
  Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 8: Includes
  Monster A
  Go-Go, Hobgoblins, The Phantom
  Planet, and
  The Dead Talk Back.
• Robotech
  –
  Protoculture Collection: If you don’t already have
  the series in
  one of its forms, you can buy all 85 episodes at
  once.
• Slipstream:
  Time
  travelling bank robbers. What will they think of
  next?
• Space
  Above
  and Beyond – The Complete Series: Ladies and
  gentlemen, we have
  ourselves a pick of the week.

Now, the non-genre releases:

• Adventures
  of
  Swiss Family Robinson – The Complete Series: This
  show ran 30
  episodes, and they’re all here.
• Beavis
  and
  Butt-head, Vol. 1: The Mike Judge Collection: I’ve
  tried to
  understand the popularity of this. I really have.
  I’ve tried to
  watch it, and I’ve spoken to people who love it. It
  just seems
  pointless and bizarre in ways that don’t amuse sober
  people.
• Big
  Fish
  Special Edition with Book: This is the original
  DVD release
  packaged with a new 24 page hardcover supplement.
  This is my favorite
  Tim Burton movie.
• Blue
  Collar TV
  – Season 1, Vol. 1: 13 episodes of redneck
  comedy.
• Boys
  Town:
  Yet another Christmas movie.
• British
  Invasion – 1960s and 1970s: Performaces by John
  Lennon, The
  Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Animals and
  more.
• Christmas
  in
  Connecticut: A well respected holiday movie.
• Christmas
  with
  the Kranks: It’s officially November. We’re
  flooded with
  Christmas movies.
• A
  Different
  World – Season 1: They’ll put anything on DVD
  these days. Except
  the 1966 Batman.
• Doki
  Doki
  School Hours (Boxed Set): A teacher with the class
  from hell.
• Jay
  and Silent
  Bob Do Degrassi (Unrated): Kevin Smith and Jason
  Mewes take part
  in Canadian melodrama.
• La
  Dolce Vita
  (Deluxe Collector’s Editon): A three DVD edition
  of a movie also
  available in the Criterion Collection.
• Lady
  Snowblood
  (Collector’s Boxed Set): This is an anime
  adaptation.
• Little
  Princess: A Shirley Temple movie released by a
  studio I’ve never
  heard of.
• Marriage
  Italian Style: I don’t know if this movie has
  anything to do with
  Divorce Italian Style.
• Pickpocket
  –
  Criterion Collection: Once again, the “Criterion
  Collection” label
  is enough to guarantee a certain level of
  quality.
• Remington
  Steele – Season Two: Stephanie Zimbalist made the
  cover art this
  time around.
• Snows
  of
  Kilimanjaro: The Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner
  film.
• Tales
  From
  Avonlea – The Complete First Season: This Canadian
  melodrama
  doesn’t have Jay and Silent Bob.

Finally, the pick of the week. Space: Above and
Beyond was a
great show that should have lasted more than one
season. Morgan and
Wong did a great job on this show, which ended on one
heck of a
cliffhanger.
