Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2022 June 5

This week we have a new premier of Marvel’s Ms. Marvel.  Disney has given the character a bit of a glow up, so it seems my hopes of a direct comic translation were a bit of a stretch.  If you prefer the Default Classics, Superman & Lois disagree and that makes them lose.  The Flash leaves the lights off, where he might find The Orville who is also exploring the shadows.  Obi-Wan Kenobi doesn’t give us a description, joining The Boys, Young Justice, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds that way.  Finally, if you have hang out with the bots, Mystery Science Theater 3000 watches Doctor Mordrid.

[All synopses (and titles) from Trakt.tv below the cut, except when there really aren’t any. (If a show’s synopsis is a spoiler to you, do not click Continue reading →)]

Superman & Lois – S02E13 – All Is Lost – Clark and Lois disagree on the best way to figure out if Ally Allston went to the Inverse World. Meanwhile, John Henry makes a surprising discovery and Lois sets out to track Lucy down.

Ms. Marvel – S01E01 – Episode 1 – A great student, avid gamer, and voracious fan-fic scribe, Kamala Khan has a special affinity for superheroes, particularly Captain Marvel. However, she struggles to fit in at home and at school — that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life is easier with super powers, right?

Obi-Wan Kenobi – S01E04 – Episode IV – [No Description Given]

The Flash – S08E17 – Keep It Dark – The Flash goes off the grid to look for answers about a new Meta in town. Meanwhile, Allegra pulls out all of the stops at CC Citizen Media, to protect a source and a friend.

The Orville: New Horizons – S03E02 – Shadow Realms – The Orville explores a mysterious region of space.

The Boys – S03E04 – Glorious Five Year Plan – [No Description Given]

Young Justice: Phantoms – S04E26 – Episode 26 – [Season Finale – No Description Given]

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds – S01E06 – Episode 6 – [No Description Given]

Mystery Science Theater 3000 – S13E05 – Doctor Mordrid – Two sorcerers (Jeffrey Combs, Brian Thompson) from the fourth dimension fight a timeless battle over the fate of Earth.

  1. For Ms. Marvel, I am hesitant because of the change, but Kamala’s editor was Sana Amanat, and she is onboard. Sana says the character is authentically translated. It makes sense to me, as Kamala’s story was never really about the stretchy powers so much as about a fangirl who happens to have powers. I think I saw it rumored that she was going to have the Negabands from the comics, which makes her more a part of the ‘Captain Marvel’ line of characters, so I see what they could be going for, but I also don’t see why they couldn’t do both? I guess we’ll see how it turns out on Wednesday.

  2. Trek went for a funny ep this week. It wasn’t bad, but not as good as the previous week’s. Night Sky‘s first season worked for me, and I might do a full-season review if time permits. We’re finally starting the current season of The Boys tonight. Thus far, the show has delivered.

It’ll be awhile before we see Ms. Marvel or Obi-Wan. Next autumn, maybe.
