Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “If you have a 4K Blu-Ray player, I’d say to pick up Raiders of the Lost Ark. Otherwise not much grabs me this week.” Blaine says, “I would also agree about Raiders of the Lost Ark if you have 4K, or Batman Begins if you don’t already own a copy.”

  1. Amazing Race is my one reality show guilty pleasure however it was starting to wear thin. That being said, the stop-and-start for COVID actually made things interesting and it was nice to travel the world (if only by proxy).

What? Does no one want to recommend Morbius? It was so good Sony released it twice in the theaters. TWICE!

  2. There does appear to be significant social media skulduggery and shenanigans in the campaigns to have the movie rereleased (and, obviously, in the new attempt to encourage a third rerelease because everybody was busy that weekend but they’d see it if it came out again).

Some interesting releases this week: The UFO Incident did a lot to mainstream the Betty and Barney Hill abduction and, by extension, the contactee/abductee folklore and movement. I remember thinking it was compelling and frightening in ’75, but I was a kid, so I don’t know if that would hold up. Rutherford Falls has received strong reviews, but I don’t know that I have time to follow another series right now. As for the Fu Manchu double feature, if you’re going to watch Yellow Peril movies and dubious racial impersonations, it might be better to start with the Karloff film. It’s also racist AF, but a curious historical piece of pre-Code Hollywood, and better-produced than the later incarnations. “Recommend” is indeed a strong word!

From what I’ve heard, Putin’s Witness might be one to see.
