Kolchak cancelled

The new version of The Night Stalker has been
cancelled effective immediately. That means that, of
the nine produced episodes, only six will have been
broadcast. This week, a two hour edition of
Primetime Live will appear in its time slot.

While, yes, this was definitely NOT your parents’ Kolchak, it was at least somewhat enjoyable. Not to mention that they ended it on a cliffhanger. :(

Oh well. I guess I’ll catch it when they either (a) show it in Europe so it gets posted online (still enjoying the recent 8 episodes of “Eyes” that just got posted), or (b) release a box set.

There are more eps for “Eyes”?! Damn, I need to go hunting…

no doubt, that was a really fun show.

I was really looking forward to this series, but the reality was a let-down. I had no empathy for Kolchak—he was too angry and distant to be a likeable character. I found the plots to be like a watered-down version of the X-Files but without the character development. After the first show, I was waiting and waiting for them to quit doing standalone episodes and get back to the mysteries surrounding Kolchak and his wife’s death. Finally they got around to it in the 6th episode.

According to this SciFi Wire article, the pilot was one of the unaired episodes. Maybe that would have made a difference.
