Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “On the 4K front, Poltergeist is a really solid horror film, and is a good pick if you have a way to watch 4K movies. Otherwise, if you’ve got the scratch for it, the Star Trek: The Next Generation Blu-Ray set isn’t a bad choice.” Blaine says, “I also recommend Star Trek: The Next Generation for those with the budget.”

  1. If you like the recent Kong/’Zila films, that’s a good collection of them, though I think they would lose much on the smaller screen.

Dreamchild is haunting, a fictionalized account of the life of Alice Liddell, the Alice (sort of) of Wonderland fame, with creatures by Jim Henson.

Exotica is classic Atom Egoyan, a complex arthouse puzzle of a mystery, but strangely relatable. The original trailer misleads. Yes, there is a strip club involved. No, it isn’t that kind of thriller.

Finally, Lost Boys is no masterpiece, but it is a fun and now nostalgic horror-trip, suited for Halloween.

    • I tentatively second the Godzilla/Kongs, but only if you don’t intend to watch them sober. (Which tells you all you need to know about what to expect.)

I only saw Lost Boys within the last year, and “fun” is a good way to describe it, though I suspect it helps if you have the nostalgia to go with it.
