South Dakota Trivia | Dorky Geeky Nerdy #199

Pack up the station wagon, kids. We’re going on a road trip.

Hey gang, I’m your host Brian Rollins and this is episode 199 of the Dorky Geeky Nerdy Trivia Podcast. This week, we’re traveling to South Dakota.

Now, I know the state is famous for basically one thing, but we’re going to try and make sure we cover its history, geography, and some pop culture while we’re visiting.

If you’re new to Dorky Geeky Nerdy, welcome to the show. Every week we give you thirty questions about a new topic. If you need rules, scorecards, or want to find out how to become a sponsor, visit the podcast’s website, DorkyGeekyNerdy.com.

I think we’ve got everything we need, so let’s start the show.

The theme music is by Jason Shaw at Audionautix.com.

  1. I have heard Weird Al’s The Biggest Ball Of Twine In Minnesota, which has nothing to do with South Dakota, but the lyrics would also rhyme with South Dakota (if that’s where you wanna go-ta,) and that’s all I can think of.

    Dorky – 3 right, 3 points –
Geeky – 5 right, 10 points – I loved that storage facility show!
Nerdy – 1 right, 3 points – Thank you Star Trek.

I find it kinda funny that most of the trivia about the state is about fiction set there because nothing else is of note there.

  2. There is a problem with one of the answers this time. The Capitol of South Dakota is in fact Pierre, but it’s pronounced Pier, not pee air. I should know, I’m from there.

  3. I am firmly in the camp that the city’s name may be named off of a foreign word, but if the residents say it’s something else, it’s what the resident’s say. Pierre may be over in France, but “Pier” is in South Dakota. Just like “North Ver-sails” is here in Pittsburgh, (named for Ver-sigh).

  4. I get that argument. That said, we have town here in Colorado, Buena Vista. The locals insist on saying Byu-nah not Bway-nah. I refuse to go along.
