(Unrelated) idea #1: “Pat Novak for Hire”, a 25 episode series starring Jack Webb before Dragnet about a detective that has so much of the stereotypical purple prose of the era that I suspect it started the cliche.
(Related) idea #1: “Fred Flintstone: Friend or Foe?”, a 30 episode run of radio shows I have access to with Alan Reed in the guest cast. This would include episodes of Let George Do It, Richard Diamond Private Detective, Yours Truly Johnny Dollar, and Suspense. (Yes, that’s Alan Reed, the voice of Fred Flintstone, playing Slip in this episode.)
I think the first one sounds more interesting. Jumping around from series to series with a guest star would be harder to follow.
