Indiana Jones IV

The NY Post has it in their gossip column, but I’ll take it.

Apparently Paramount is seriously looking into making it work. All the key players (Ford, Spielburg, and Lucus) are onboard, and Sean Connery has expressed an interest in returning as Dr. Jones Sr.

Some industry insiders are laughing at Harrison Ford’s age (he turns 59 next month), but I think Paramount will be the one’s with the last laugh…all the way to the bank.

  1. Could be good
Those of us that have kept an eye on Ain’t It Cool News have
also read that they are planning to write the script with
an aging Indiana Jones, so the fact that Ford is 59 might
not be a problem. One of the people who is rumoured to be
developing a possible script is M.
    Night Shyamalan
, who has proven his ability to write a
    great script with The Sixth
    Sense
. (I won’t comment on his other films until I
    see them.)

And those of us who have kept and eye on Coming Attractions know that even though these rumours have recently surfaced, doesn’t mean that we’re any closer to getting a movie than we have been for the past few years.
Incidentally, the Shyamalan rumours have kinda been put on back burner after Shyamalan himself said that he wasn’t interested in doing sequels.

  2. Old Fords
Why Do They Constantly Try to Take A Star That’s Outgrown A Character And Age the Character To Make Up For It? Why Don’t They Just Admit That The Character, While Excellently Portrayed By One Actor, Can Be Played By Someone Else? It Works With Bond, And There’s No Reason They Couldn’t Get A New Indy?

Now, Don’t Get My Wrong, I Think Harrison Ford Played The Role Amazingly Well, And I’m Not Saying I Don’t Like Him, But There’s Nothing Stopping Someone else From Stepping Up And Trying On Indy’s Theme Music.

Actually, they already have two new Indys.
Didn’t you ever watch The Young Indiana Jones
      Chronicles?

The older kid from Young Indy, Sean Patrick Flannery, is
twentysomething now, and could play Indy for another twenty years or so, when the other kid, whose name I don’t remember (I don’t want to pop over to IMDB and look it up; sue me.), could take over for a while.

A movie where Indy’s fresh out of getting his PhD could work with a younger actor.

I Was Aware Of Those, But Never Actually Got To See Any Of Them. Sean Patrick Flannery I Am Familar With (I Loved UPN’s “The Strip”, And “Simple Irresistable”, Though Neither Seems To Have Been Anywhere Near Popular), And He Probably Could Pull It Off. I Think Also Ben Affleck and Possibly Even Brendan Frasier (He Did Alright In The Mummy).

        Any Other Ideas?

Here’s another option. Keep Ford as an older Indiana Jones but in the next movie he is training his protoge. Yes, Indy is getting too old to continue his field work. His student (let’s call him Montana, or Monty for short), though, is “as good as or better than” Indy but inexperienced. Indy is taking Monty with him on this trip to give him some experience when they run in to Soviet problems and go from there.

If the new movie is popular enough, Paramount can continue the frachise with Monty. (Can’t you just see the Satuday morning cartoon?) Indy gets phased out as he gets older and we get to see the “Indy stuff” we liked for a long time time to come with our new hero Monty.
