No, the date isn’t a typo. December 27 may be a
Tuesday, but December 26 is one of the biggest (if not
the biggest) shopping days of the year.
Therefore, most studios recognize the benefit of
having products available on that day, so many
releases are due on Monday. The releases that
appealed to me are listed below.
First, the genre releases:
- Dark
Water: Jennifer Connelly in a haunted apartment.
I didn’t manage
to catch this in theatres, but I’ll try to catch the
video. - Nowhere
Man –
The Complete Series: This show had a small but
devoted following. - Roswell:
The
Final Declassification: This is from the History
Channel. - Seaquest
DSV:
Season One: I really enjoyed this series when it
first launched.
The schedule somehow kept me from keeping up with the
complete run,
but what I saw was good. - Toy
Story 2 (2
Disk Special Edition): My mind boggles that this
wasn’t released
before Christmas. - Twilight
Zone
– Season Five – Definitive Edition: The original
series continues
to come to DVD. Unlike The Outer Limits, the
original was
also the longest running series of The Twilight
Zone. - War
of the
Worlds: This looks like a gift set for the
original series.
Now, the non-genre releases:
- 2046:
I
love this director, but the movie never screened where
I live. I’ll
try to track down the DVD. - American
Pie
Presents – Band Camp: Because you don’t need the
original cast to
make money on a direct-to-video sequel. - The
Shield –
The Complete Fourth Season: The well reviewed cop
drama keeps
coming to DVD. - Tracey
Takes
On – The Complete First Season: Did you ever see
the real
first broadcast of the Simpsons?
Finally, the pick of the week. Toy Story 2
was a fantastic
movie that you should definitely check out (assuming
you haven’t
already.) This is both fantasy and animated, but
people don’t think
of it in those terms, because it’s just such a bloody
good movie that
people who don’t think they like fantasy or animation
want to pretend
that the terms don’t apply here. Better than the
excellent original.
Seaquest was horrible!
I used to watch just to yell at my TV! A cheap rip-off of ST:TNG through and through. Right down to the red-head doctor with a thing for the captain and a genius son who’s buddy with the non-human crewmember on this flagship of a peacefull organisation on a mission of exploration.
Also, according to that show, lava is not hot enough to boil water. Watch for it if yo make the mistake of getting those DVDs.
Dark Waters
There was a trailer for “Dark Waters” on a DVD I have. Actually there were about 15 minutes of trailers so I muted it and went to do other things, but I did catch this one.
From what I can tell from watching the promo with the sound off, this is a movie about some chick who lives in an apartment with a lot of plumbing problems which seem to creep up on her. Oh, and her boobs are somehow essential to the plot. Is that about right?
Re: Dark Waters
It can’t be any worse than the Japanese original… made the mistake of
renting it some time ago.
Re: Dark Waters
Well, usually it gets worse with each remake…
