Societal Commentary
What does it say about us as a society when “Cheaper by the Dozen 2” and “The Ringer” make the top ten, but “The Producers” doesn’t make the list? My wife and I saw it yesterday and we laughed till we had tears coming down our faces. It’s not genre so I won’t review it, but it’s really worth the price of admission.
Re: Societal Commentary
These are holiday ratings. I suspect that The Producers lacks kid and teen appeal, and those groups form a huge part of the movie-going public over Christmas.
Re: Societal Commentary
Haven’t seen it, but caught BBC’s Mark Kermode review it, he thought it was fairly “stagey” and not as good as the original. ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/fivelive/entertainment/kermode.shtml )
Re: Societal Commentary
What does it say about us that that “top 10” list has three movies that were originally books, one sequel to a movie that wasn’t good in the first place and one remake of a classic, and what you’re looking to be on the list is yet another remake?
Re: Societal Commentary
Well my $0.02
I only get very few opportunities to watch a movie each year due to having some small kids and no real good babysitter where I live. At Christmas I was home visiting my family from the 23rd to the 28th. On the 24th I managed to sneak out, leaving my kids with my parents, long enough to see one movie. I chose to see Harry Potter since there wasn’t a LOTR this year :)
while the producers looks entertaining and all I’m not going to waste my one free a year on a movie that the big screen won’t help me out much on compared to what I have at home. I am still bummed I didn’t get to go to King Kong and Narnia, as I think both deserve to be seen on a huge screen vs. my 57″ one at home.
