Dune Sequels On The Way

It was rumoured some time ago, but now it’s confirmed. Sequels to the Dune miniseries will be made. I think I should get around to rewatching the original on DVD. It’s been a couple of weeks…

I sure hope these new ones are better than that last mini-series they did. I love Sci-Fi channel, but the Dune movie (3hr version) is just SO much better than that crap they put on Sci-Fi last year (or whenever it was).

You have got to be kidding! The Dune movie was not only way off from the book, but just plain confusing if you didn’t already know the story. PLus it rained at the end! Give me a break!

The only thing wrong with the Sci-Fi Channel version was the scenes in the desert and the Sietches had the chees-o Star Trek TOS matte painting backgrounds. But, I’d rather see that version with some less-than-stellar scenery than that piece of poo that came out in ’84. I’m excited for the sequels!

Wow. Gusher and I agree on something. The miniseries is
also hard to understand if you haven’t read the books, but
it’s not a complete loss. (Most things that confuse
people are explained, they’re just explained a few hours
later than they should be.) The movie was confusing to a
lot of people who had read the book, and completely
inaccessible to most people who hadn’t. Overall, the
miniseries was a better production, although it was
        saddled by a
smaller set construction budget than it deserved. My
greatest concern with the upcoming miniseries will be
jamming that plot into six hours. They do run the risk of
making a miniseries which cannot be understood by people
        who didn’t read the books.

I Was Afraid Of That As Well, But At The Time, I Watched It With My Girlfriend, Who Doesn’t Read Sci-Fi, And If It Weren’t For Her Geeky Boyfriend, Probably Wouldn’t Have Even Heard Of Dune. She Said She Liked It, And COuld Follow It Pretty Well. When I First Saw The First Movie (Lynch Version), I Was Not Enthused, And If It hadn’t Been For Picard, I DOubt I Would have Tried Watching It Again. I Still Think It Was Boring Compared TO the Sci-Fi Version.

The Sci-Fi Version Is What Taught Me “Don’t Fuck With Freman”

Just this last weekend I watched the mini-series on DVD and then watched the 4 hour original movie. Now, I haven’t read any of the books, but I’ll have to say that the mini-series seemed to have more thought put into the script. I agree that they didn’t seem to have the budget that Lynch had in ’84, but the computer graphics were much better (ie: the personal sheilds). If you watch them both they seem to complement each other, but I’ll read the books first.
