Another week, another round of DVDs.
First, the genre releases:
- Avenger:
Complete Collection: For the anime fans. - BBC
Cosmic
Comedy Collection: This includes the
Hitchhiker’s Guide to the
Galaxy miniseries and seasons/series 3-6 of
Red Dwarf. - The
Fog
(Unrated Widescreen Edition): This is the remake,
starring Tom
Welling. - Mobile
Suit
Gundamn Wing – Complete Collection 1: If it’s a
complete
collection, why does it need to be numbered? - Neo
Ranga:
Complete Collection: Another one for the anime
fans. - Outlaw
Star:
Complete Collection: Anime fans will be happy this
week. - Time
Tunnel
Vol. 1: This was a pretty good show in its day. I
enjoyed the
reruns several decades later.
Now, the non-genre releases:
- 1st
and Ten –
Complete Collection: I never saw the show, but
this is a complete
80 episode run of a show for $20. That’s a great
deal, if you have
any interest in the title. - Allo,
‘Allo!
Complete Series Four: It’s like the British
version of Hogan’s
Heroes, set in France. - The
Aristocrats: 100 comedians each tell the dirtiest
joke they can
think of. It could be interesting to rent, but I’m
not sure I’d buy
it. - BBC
Classic
Comedy Collection: This is a collection of various
BBC sitcoms,
including Black Adder and Fawlty
Towers. - BBC
Cutting
Edge Comedy Collection: This includes some of the
less typical BBC
comedies, including The Office. - Dallas
– The
Complete Fourth Season: The show kept going for a
long time. - Flightplan:
This
sounded interesting, but I never got around to seeing
it. - Max
Allan
Collins – The Black Box Collectin: Shades of
Neo-Noir: Honestly,
it’s hard to tell what’s in this set. It looks like
the most
recognizable content is the lost Mike Hammer
pilot. - My
Big Fat
Independent Movie: This spoofs other independent
films. - Repo
Man
(Collector’s Edition): I’ve heard good things
about this one. - Virgin
Spring
– Criterion Collection: Ingmar Bergman directed,
and Criterion is
in charge of the DVD release. What more needs to be
said?
Finally, the pick of the week. I’ll have to go with
Time Tunnel
Vol. 1, for some good old-fashioned science
fiction television.
Check it out.

Time Tunnel… on DVD??!? In MY LIFETIME??!? Ohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygoooooddddddddddddd!!!!! *swoons like schoolgirl*
Man I love that show. I used to have a bunch of them on the computer that I captured from the SciFi channel, but I managed to lose them somehow. I am VERY happy to see this.
Also, ‘Allo ‘Allo! is a wonderful show. I don’t know if it was ever shown in the US to any extent. I have the first three seasons and have been waiting for S4 (:
Re: *faints*
Yeah, replying to myself (;
Ok, first, I’m concerned about it being "Time Tunnel Vol 1". That show only had one season so what’s "vol. 1"? Half of it?
Second, "’Allo ‘Allo" is NOT based in any way on Hogan’s Heros. I know that that was just used as a base for comparison, but it’s just really, really not!
Re: *faints*
That’s exactly what it is, somewhat like the last two
seasons of Lost In Space.
Which is why I said "like." They are similar genres,
though not connected through any production, characters,
etc. I’m sorry if I gave anyone a different impression.
Re: *faints*
Greeeat. So now I have the "Buy It Now Or Wait Till It Comes Out In One Nice Package" thing going…
I know, I know that’s not what you meant, but it’s sounded kinda like when the Mr Bean movie came out and people in the US were saying "Rowan Atkinson is like the British Jim Carey". I know you didn’t mean it like that but it just kinda pokes at you, you know? (:
