Another week, another list of options. The pickings
are getting better.
First, the genre releases:
- Dark
Shadows
Vol. 22: A vampire soap opera. I’ve seen this
listed many times,
and I’m still surprised they made it. - Dune
(Extended
Edition): This also includes the original
theatrical version.
I’ll be picking it up to check out the extended
edition, as well. - Knight
Rider –
Season Three: That was a cool car. - Muppets
Movie
Collection: A great price on three of the later
movies. - Tim
Burton’s
Corpse Bride: I wanted to see this, but couldn’t
find the time. - The
X-Files –
Complete First Season (Thinpack): This set has
new, cheaper
packaging, which leads to a significantly lower price.
The actual
disk contents are the same as the previous
release. - The
X-Files –
Complete Second Season (Thinpack): Again, same
content, new
packaging. I’m running desperately short on storage
space, so I’ve
opted to pick these up and try to resell the original
releases. - The
X-Files –
Complete Third Season (Thinpack): You know the
drill by now.
Now, the non-genre releases:
- 3
Movie Comedy
Collection: This includes Without A
Paddle, School of
Rock, and Orange County. - The
A-Team:
Season Three: More nostalgia from my
childhood. - All
American
Girl – The Complete Series: I don’t even remember
when this
aired. - Archie
Bunker’s Place – The Complete First Season: One of
the All In
The Family spin-off series. - Bubble:
A
Steven Soderbergh film. He’s got a very distinctive
style, so I’m
sure it’s worth seeing. - Diff’rent
Strokes – The Complete Second Season: I enjoyed
this the first
time around, but I don’t know how well it holds
up. - Enter
The
Dragon: There are no product details, but I assume
it’s Bruce
Lee’s last film. - Essential
Atom
Egoyan Box Set: This includes Speaking
Parts,
Calendar, Family Viewing and
Next of Kin. - Four
Weddings
and a Funeral (Deluxe Edition): I enjoyed this,
but not enough to
spring for the two disk set with a single disk edition
available. - Gone
With The
Wind (Two Disc Edition): Yet another edition hits
the market. I
enjoyed it when I saw it, but I wouldn’t bother to buy
it. - Hill
Street
Blues – Season One: My brother in law will be
thrilled that this
is available now. - Legend
of
Zorro: I’m always skeptical when the studio
“finally finds the
right script for a sequel” after seven years, given
that there’s
usually a seven year time limit on production to
retain sequel rights
and the star casting options. - Magnum,
P.I. –
Complete Third Season: This was fun to watch. - MI-5
Volume
3: Another well reviewed show I haven’t seen
yet. - My
Big Fat
Greek Wedding: This was an enjoyable comedy, but
I’m not sure it
lives up to its reputation. - The
Pink
Panther: This must be official Pink Panther week
for somebody,
given the amount of Pink Panther product that’s coming
out. This is
movie #1 in a 9 movie series. - A
Shot In The
Dark: The 2nd in the series. - Inspector
Clouseau: The 3rd in the series. - Return
of the
Pink Panther: The 4th in the series. This was
actually released
on January 10 for some reason, but I’ll list it with
the others for
completeness. - The
Pink
Panther Strikes Again: The 5th in the series. - Revenge
of the
Pink Panther: The 6th in the series. - The
Trail of
the Pink Panther: The 7th in the series. - Curse
of the
Pink Panther: The 8th in the series. - Son
of the
Pink Panther: The 9th in the series. - Pink
Panther
Classic Cartoon Collection: This is the only Pink
Panther product
that I find somewhat tempting.
Finally, the pick of the week. The X-Files:
Complete Third
Season was just a great year for a great show.
That’s got to
have my vote, as the fifth season likely will when
seasons four
through six come out on March 28, 2006.
Bubble
Notable about Bubble is that it’s simultaneously (sp?) being released on DVD, in theatres and on pay-per-view.
There’s already a really excellent Special Edition of "Enter the Dragon"… I wonder what they’re doing with it now. Ditto the Pink Panther movies (I have the nice case with five of them).
I’m always tempted to get S1 of Knight Rider… just cause I, well, never saw the first episode.
The A-Team is an excellent show. Seriously. I think kids should watch it. It teachers about cooporation and inginuity – every episode has an extended scene where they build something. I remember my sister and I would watch it when we were kids cause we thought B.A. looked cute wearing welding goggles. I don’t know why he always falls for the milk trick though.
Re: Bubble
Well, if you want to see just the first episode (actually a two-parter – so 2 episodes), I’m sure there are "ways" to acquire them. Heck there are even legal (itunes required) ways to buy just the first two episodes. No reason to spend $40 to see $4 worth of television. Or just go to netflix and rent ’em.
Re: Bubble
*grins* it’s on iTunes? I might have to try that.
A Shot in the Dark
A Shot in the Dark was actually the first Pink Panther movie made, but it was released after The Pink Panther.
I Remember All-American Girl
It was created way back in the 1990s when people thought Margaret Cho was funny. Of course, by the time people had watched one or two episodes they learned the awful truth…
Dune (3rd edit)
I’d love to see a review of the new Dune edit. The director’s 4 hour cut, the one with the drawings, was a bit dumb for the same reason the original US edition of Blade Runner was dumb – the viewer doesn’t need to be constantly blugeoned with endless monologues, personally I just wanted more finished footage. So what you guys think?
