Weekly Comics Discussion – February 1, 2006

The weekly shipping list are here
as always. Titles that caught my eye can be found
below. UPDATED: Link fixed.

DC Comics

  • GREEN LANTERN #8 – Continuing with Mongul and the
    Green
    Arrow/Green Lantern team-up.
  • RANN THANAGAR WAR INFINITE CRISIS SPECIAL –
    Another tie-in title.
  • SUPERMAN MAN OF TOMORROW ARCHIVES VOL 2 HC – If
    you can afford to
collect the archives, enjoy this one.
  • THUNDERBOLT JAXON #1 (OF 5) – A new
    miniseries.
  • WILL EISNER COMPANION SC – Eisner was a master of
    the medium.
  • Y THE LAST MAN #42 – This well reviewed series
    continues.

Marvel Comics

  • FANTASTIC FOUR #534 – JMS continues the Thing/Hulk
    knockdown.
  • FURY PEACEMAKER #1 (OF 6) – Continuing with Fury’s
    current
position, after (the as-yet unreviewed) Secret
    War.
  • HOUSE OF M TP – I’m tempted to get it, but need to
    manage the
budget. The Incredible Hulk crossover is
    also available.
  • SAGA OF SQUADRON SUPREME – This is, I believe, a
    summary of the
first 18 issues designed to help those not old enough
    for the MAX
issues catch up in time for the relaunch.
  • SUPREME POWER NIGHTHAWK (OF 6) – The first five
    issues were
good. It’s introducing the Supremeverse version of
    the Joker.
  • UNCANNY X-MEN #469 – Phoenix ended the previous
    issue rather
    upset, which is quite understandable.
  • X-FACTOR #3 – A reprint of issue 2 is also
    available.
  • X-MEN THE END MEN AND X-MEN #2 (OF 6) – To be
    reviewed when the
    series is complete.

  1. Squadron Supreme Spoiler Warning
Just a warning, in case anyone hasn’t actually finished reading yet: "Saga of Squadron Supreme" spoils the end of the "Supreme Power: Hyperion" miniseries. If you’re reading both, don’t read the Saga page titled "Twilight" just yet.

  2. Sorry if I’m out of line
I’m trying to track down a quote, I might have seen it in an old issue of Captain America. It’s something about "it only takes one man" and "…to stand up with when others are told to sit down…" There were a few more verses in there. If I’m right it was one of Cap’s trademark soliloquies while he was beating somebody senseless. Google Barttlet’s quotations aren’t helping. Does anybody recognize this quote?

The other thing is I’m looking for a decent summary of Aliens vs Predator: Deadliest of the Species. Can anybody help me out?
