The weekly DVD choices are becoming more plentiful.
First, the genre releases:
- 13
Going On 30
(Fun and Flirty Edition): I’ve never seen this,
but I’m sure we’ve
got some Jennifer Garner fans among our
readership. - Bambi
II:
Did this movie need a sequel? - The
Batman –
The Complete First Season: It’s not bad, but it’s
certainly no
Timm/Dini collaboration. - Black
Scorpion: A Roger Corman superhero film. - Doom
(Unrated
Widescreen Edition): I got tired of this when it
was just a video
game. I don’t think I’d want to sit through the
movie. - Dungeons
and
Dragons 2 – Wrath of the Dragon God: I admit I
enjoyed the first
one, though I went in expecting the fantasy version of
Mars
Attacks! or Little Shop of Horrors. - The
Net:
The movie, not the superior TV series. - The
Net:
Same title, much higher price. The “product
description” makes it
sound like it includes the direct to video sequel,
The Net 2.0. - The
Net
2.0: Just the sequel. I don’t think I’ll get
either movie, but
I’d be seriously tempted by a season set of the
series. - Poltergeist:
The Legacy – The Complete First Season: I never
watched this series. - Saturday
the
14th: A spoof of the Friday the 13th
series. - Teen
Titans –
The Complete First Season: I haven’t seen it, but
the strength of
the Timm/Dini reputation makes it mighty
tempting. - Wallace
and
Gromit – The Curse of the Were-Rabbit: This was a
fun movie. - Wallace
and
Gromit – 2 DVD Cracking Collector’s Set: I’m
tempted to get this,
even though I have the original three shorts, just
because my copy
predates the “Cracking Contraptions” segments now
included. I don’t
understand why they didn’t put that on the movie disk,
since they were
created to practice for the movie anyway. Putting
them here makes it
feel like a money grab.
Now, the non-genre releases:
- Audrey
Hepburn
Collection: This includes Breakfast at
Tiffany’s,
Roman Holiday, and the original
Sabrina. - The
Best of
the Electric Company: I have fond memories of this
show. - The
Cary Grant
Box Set: Includes Holiday, Only
Angels Have
Wings, The Talk of the Town, His
Girl Friday,
and The Awful Truth. - Cleopatra:
The original DVD release was so long ago that the
movie spanned two
DVDs. (Dual layer hadn’t been implemented yet.) I
suspect that this
release won’t have that issue. - Day
of the
Dolphin: Starring George C. Scott, and directed by
Mike Nichols.
I hadn’t heard of it before, but that’s a talented
pair, so it’s worth
consideration. - Elizabethtown:
Another well reviewed Cameron Crowe film I haven’t
seen yet. - Eros:
An
anthology film with segments directed by Michelangelo
Antonioni,
Steven Soderbergh, and Wong Kar Wai. That’s got my
attention. - Family
Plot: A rerelease of an Alfred Hitchcock film.
‘Nuff said. - The
French
Connection: A good cop art film. - Growing
Pains
– The Complete First Season: Ah, nostalgia. - Hee
Haw 10th
Anniversary Celebration: This is another hit on
nostalgia. - In
the Mood
for Love/2046: A pairing of two Wong Kar Wai
films. There is no
price listed, though. - MASH:
The
movie. - The
Man Who
Knew Too Much: Another rerelease of great
Hitchcock fare. - Marnie:
This Hitchcock rerelease is also coming out on
Tuesday. - Moonlighting
–
Season Three: The series that launched the career
of Bruce
Willis. - The
Richard
Pryor Collection: Includes Which Way Is
Up?,
Brewster’s Millions, Car Wash, and
Bustin’
Loose. - Shadow
of a
Doubt: More Hitchcock rereleases. - Speed:
This was a pretty good action film, which really
launched two
careers. - Torn
Curtain: This Hitchcock rerelease stars Paul
Newman and Julie
Andrews. It’s quite good.
Finally, the pick of the week. I’d say it’s Curse
of the
Were-Rabbit. Wallace and Gromit are just highly
entertaining;
pick it up.
Grr
NO.
Re: Grr
There already was a sequel.
Re: Grr
*ROTFL!!!*
When’s THAT DVD coming out??
Re: Grr
Nevermind, I got it.
Richard Pryor movies
Why didn’t they include "Superman III"?
Huh, huh?
Why?
Re: Richard Pryor movies
This is a collection of his Universal Studios work, and Superman III was for Warner Bros. They probably just didn’t have the rights.
