Weekly Comics Discussion – March 1, 2006

It’s now March. DC’s “One Year Later” event is almost
on top of us, and Marvel has an interesting item or
two on its roster. As usual, the complete
list is here
, while the items that caught my eye
are below.

DC Comics

  • ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #649 – The last issue of
    “Adventures
of…”. When the One Year Later event hits next
    month, it’ll be
    “Superman #650.”
  • GREEN LANTERN CORPS RECHARGE #5 (OF 5) – This
    miniseries ends.
I’ll try to review this and the ongoing title this
    week to get those
    reviews up to date.
  • INFINITE CRISIS #5 (OF 7) – And this week’s #1
    seller is…
  • Y THE LAST MAN #43 (MR) – I keep hearing good
    things about this,
but somehow I still haven’t picked up a copy.

Marvel Comics

  • CAPTAIN AMERICA WINTER SOLDIER VOL 1 TP – I’ve
    heard nothing but
good things about this story. In fact, this plot was
    the reason that
“Captain America” was chosen as the comic book of the
    year by Wizard
    for 2005. That’s a pretty glowing recommendation.
    I’m definitely
    tempted by this.
  • EXILES VOL 12 WORLD TOUR BOOK 1 TP – This is what
    I was waiting
for to get caught up with this title. (Man, my comic
    reviews are
    behind.)
  • FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN #5 – The first
    non-Other issue,
which likely means it’s the first issue that will
    really show us what
Peter David plans to do with the title. Again, a
    review will
    (eventually) come.
  • SECRET WAR HC – Now that the series is over, the
    collections can
be released. I wouldn’t recommend shelling out for
    the hardcover.
Again, the review is long overdue.
  • SQUADRON SUPREME DEATH OF A UNIVERSE TP – A
    collection of the
    original miniseries.
  • ULTIMATES 2 #10 – Continuing with the Ultimate
    Loki plot.
  • UNCANNY X-MEN #470 – More with Jean Grey’s family.
    Again, I’m
behind in the reviews. This will take a few months to
    catch up on, as
I’m going to start with the issues in the “40 Years
    of…” DVD and
just run up to whatever point the title is at when I
    finish it.
  • X-MEN THE END MEN AND X-MEN #3 (OF 6) – And
    another title that I’m
    behind in reviewing.

  1. Infinite Crisis
I’ll have that review of #4-5 up either late tonight or tomorrow.

  2. Totally missed Infinite Crisis #5
    Dang.

Wonder if the comic shop will have any copies today.
