If you’re a fan of the Dini/Timm superhero cartoons,
you’ll like this week. Otherwise, there’s not that
much out there.
First, the genre releases:
- Batman
Beyond
– The Complete First Season: I loved the few
episodes I saw. I’ll
be picking this up. - Bewitched
–
The Complete Third Season: This was the year the
show switched to
the colour format, which is why you don’t have two
buying options this
time around. - Chicken
Little: The Disney CGI film. - Headspace:
Sounds like an interesting horror concept. - Hercules
and
the Princess of Troy / Atlas in the Land of the
Cyclops / Giants of
Rome: This is a collection of mythology
adaptations from the 1960s. - House
of the
Dead 2: Dead Aim: This seems to be a
direct-to-video sequel. - Justice
League
– Season One: This is a great series. The
Unlimited version is
better, but this is great. Season two has already
been announced for
a June 20th release, along with loads of other
Superman stuff. - Tales
from the
Crypt – The Complete Third Season: Man, if this
only had a better
budget… - The
Ten
Commandments Anniversary Collection: Includes the
1923 and 1956
versions.
Now, the non-genre releases:
- 21
Jump Street
– Season Five: Introducing the world to Johnny
Depp. - 42nd
Street: This is a release with new packaging for
the classic
musical. - The
Billy
Wilder DVD Collection: The man was rarely
innovative, but he was
exceptional at combining established elements in very
effective ways.
This set includes Stalag 17, Sunset
Boulevard, and
Sabrina. - The
Black
Crowes: Freak N Roll into the Fog: I own
relatively few music DVDs
(just 5 of the disks in my
collection),
but this one is very tempting. - The
Busby
Berkeley Collection: This set includes
Footlight Parade,
Gold Diggers of 1933, Dames,
Gold Diggers of
1935, and 42nd Street. - Capote:
This was the film that Philip Seymour Hoffman won the
best acting
Oscar for, and which Catherine Keener was nominated
for. - The
Choke:
This is an indie horror about a band. - Derailed:
Last year’s suspense thriller. - Dreamer
–
Inspired by a True Story: Some injured horses
don’t get shot. - Everything
is
Illuminated: I hadn’t heard of this, but it stars
Elijah Wood and
was directed by Liev Schriber. - The
Flying Nun
– The Complete First Season: A superhero nun.
Huh. - Gidget:
The
Complete Series: More Sally Field. - Hollywood
Screen Legends Giftset: This is a Paramount
release that includes
A Place In The Sun, Roman Holiday
and To Catch a
Thief. - Huff:
The
Complete First Season: Another well reviewed show
I haven’t seen. - In
the
Mix: Starring rap star Usher. - Over
There –
Season One: The recent war series comes to
DVD. - Roseanne
–
Season Three: I’m not sure if this season is one
Joss Whedon wrote
for. - The
Shirley
Temple Collection, Vol. 3: More Shirley Temple. - South
Park –
The Complete Seventh Season: I still don’t get the
appeal of this
series.
Finally, the pick of the week. I’ve got to go with
Justice League
– Complete First Season. I’m a sucker for
superheroes, and these
are among the best to ever grace any size screen.
genre
Flying nun doesn’t qualify as "genre"? Because why? :)
Re: genre
*lol*
I guess it would count, wouldn’t it? That’s… a bit… I can’t decide if it’s funny or disturbing…
Darn
I was hoping something really good would come out this week. I’m going on vacation next week and wanted to have some DVDs ripped to my harddrive for long flights/layovers.
Yeah, I got Newsradio a couple of weeks ago… but I couldn’t resist watching that…
Maybe I’ll get Justice League.
