But then again Hurley is my favorite character.
First Hurley kicked Sawyer’s ass. He’s deserved, I like Sawyer, but I think he needed to be knocked down a few pegs. Between this episode and the last, he might get back to normal. (Though didn’t Hurley see the poker game? Wouldn’t he know Sawyer didn’t have the medicine any more?).
I figured from the beginning that Dave wasn’t real. I thought at first he the friend he killed in the accident. (before knowing what the accident was), he still might have been.
I wonder how unreal Dave really is, with lost you never know. I figured Dave on the island was like Jack’s Dad, and the horse, and I was surprised when he spoke.
As for Hurley’s back story, what a burden to put on yourself. Thinking your responsible for the deaths of 2 people, and I presume injuries of 21 others?
I love the character development of Hurley, being fat like him I understand the hold food has over him. I’m glad he has someone to help with that now.
The big surprise was Libby as a patient in the hospital, I thought she would have been one of the doctors he never dealt with.
This couldn’t have been to long before the crash, definitely not long enough for her to become a shrink. So either she was before she was in the hospital, or she’s lying.

I know that in general they are required to under go counseling. Also some hospitals go as far as to have doctors experience the full patient experience. So t wouldn’t surprise me that some programs for mental health professionals require them to be "committed" for a time. Also keep in mind she could have been psychiatrist who had some sort of a break down.

disappointing
I thought the imaginary friend/this is all an hallucination aspect was too rehashed (see Fight Club, Buffy ep "Normal Again", or B5 "And The Sky Full Of Stars", for starters), and it was pretty obvious that Dave was at least malevolent if not imaginary. At least we get a lot more Hurley backstory, including why he was in the hospital and why he has the guilt he does.
Now, on an island that–until this episode–really had only tropical fruit and fish for food, why is *anyone* going to encourage *anyone* to waste it? I had a problem with Michael using Ranch for target practice, so you can imagine me wincing as Hurley destroyed all that food. I could understand a little destructive therapy, but all of it? These people are *obviously* Americans.
I thought the last island scene was an affront to fans. Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t *all* the teasers from last week show Hurley losing his balance on the cliff? That didn’t happen in the episode, and I think that’s a pretty bullshit way to advertise.
At least the look on Libby’s face as she walked off screen at the end was amazing. I was actually a little disappointed to learn right away what it meant.
Meanwhile, back at the hatch, my respect for Sayid grew even more. He is one intelligent man and clever interrogator. I found it very hard to believe "Henry" when he tells Locke that he has no more reason to lie. Henry is starting to sound like a broken record. (Honest.)

I had a problem with that too, but overall, I liked it. Maybe the entire show really is a figment of Hurley’s imagination. Maybe we all are ;-)
One thing that argues in the direction of them all being in an institution is that I think everyone on the show is a candidate for membership with what they’ve been through… maybe Sun did go to America and Jin followed her…

My question now would be. Was Locke on the deck and was that the accident that made him paralyzed. With this show, I’d be almost certain it was.
As for the figment off imagination thing. If the final episode of this is Hurley looking at a snow globe of an island……. I’ll be very upset.
I just think Libby is tied to Hurley throught the hospital, just like other characters have crossed paths as well.

Moreover, maybe Hurley pulled a few strings to get Locke hired into his box company, after Hurley had won the lottery and bought the company, as compensation…?
