Weekly DVD Picks – May 2, 2006

With summer imminent, things are once again becoming
interesting in the area of video releases.

First, the genre releases:

Now, the non-genre releases:

Finally, the pick of the week. I’d have to go with
Red Dwarf
VIII
. The guitar strings alone are hilarious.
I’m hoping that
movie they’ve been talking about finally gets off the
ground.

  1. Back! Back Evil One!

This series just ended, and I missed the finale. I’ll have to keep an eye out for reruns.

Thanks to TiVo, I thought the days of waiting for reruns were a distant memory. Having used one (owned by a roommate), I’ll never go back. Believe me, it’s definitely worth the cost.

I’ve got a digital video recorder that records everything I tell it to. I never told it to record the finale, though. I watch Red Green when convenient, but don’t go looking for it. I didn’t even know the series was ending until the next day.

  2. Well…
I love Red Dwarf. I really, really do. I truly love that show.

But series 8 SUCKED in a HUGE way. Huuuuuuuuuge. I think it only had one good joke "I’ve found stuff in here that’ll make your hair stand on ends" "What is it, Hol?!" "Brill cream." But come on, bringing back the ENTIRE CREW? The whole point of the show was Lister is the last human left alive. Kris joining wasn’t TOO bad, considering Rimmer had left and he was almost human, but the entire crew? Also they seem to have spent all their money on Cutting Edge special effects, which were completely outdated by the time they aired.

I’m gonna end up buying the thing out of some misplaced sense of loyalty (and so I have the every episode). It would have been nice if they included the Smeg-Ups and Smeg-Outs or whatever those were called in this… I was hoping with every season that those would be included.
