Han Shoots First… Again

chad writes, On September 12th, Fox will be releasing the original theatrical versions of the first Star Wars trilogy on DVD. While this is just a way for George Lucas to extort even more money from his fan base, it will be nice to finally see Greedo shoot second.

Wow. I’ve never seen so many submissions in the queue before. Here’s the official press release.

  1. The Cheapskate’s Dilemna
I don’t own any version of either trilogy yet (poor student), so I’m faced with a dilemna. Do I grab one of the cheap 2004 editions that will inevitably be sold on eBay, or do I wait to afford the real thing? Of course, maybe by the time I graduate yet another version will have been released…

Correct, there just has to be a Blu-Ray version of this later… Let us hope they rescan the original trilogy in 4K or better, so it is future-format-proof.

So buy a cheap one of eBay, wait for HDTV release later :)

  2. HELLO!!!

In response to overwhelming demand, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release attractively priced individual two-disc releases of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Each release includes the 2004 digitally remastered version of the movie and, as bonus material, the theatrical edition of the film. That means you’ll be able to enjoy Star Wars as it first appeared in 1977, Empire in 1980, and Jedi in 1983.

I think we all just figured out how Lucas is gonna pay for those two TV shows that are coming.
