Fall 2006 Schedules

We’ve got the fall schedules for ABC, CBS, the CW,
Fox, and NBC all collected into convenient
charts
sorted by day. The new genre shows are
described below, as well as the list of fall reviews.
UPDATED: I fixed the incorrect year.

“HEROES” — The epic drama “Heroes” chronicles the
lives of ordinary
people who discover they possess extraordinary
abilities. As a total
eclipse casts it shadow across the globe, viewers
follow a genetics
professor (Sendhil Ramamurthy, “Blind Guy Driving”) in
India whose
father’s disappearance leads him to uncover a secret
theory — there
are people with super powers living among us. A young
dreamer (Milo
Ventimiglia, “The Bedford Diaries”) tries to convince
his politician
brother (Adrian Pasdar, “Judging Amy”) that he can
fly. A high school
cheerleader (Hayden Panettiere, “Ice Princess”) learns
that she is
totally indestructible. A Las Vegas stripper (Ali
Larter, “Final
Destination”), struggling to make ends meet to support
her young son
(Noah Gray-Cabey, “My Wife & Kids”), uncovers that her
mirror image
has a secret. A prison inmate (Leonard Roberts, “Buffy
the Vampire
Slayer”) mysteriously finds himself waking up outside
of his cell. A
gifted artist (Santiago Cabrera, “Empire”), whose drug
addiction is
destroying his life and the relationship with his
girlfriend (Tawny
Cypress, “Third Watch”), can paint the future. A
down-on-his-luck beat
cop (Greg Grunberg, “Alias”) can hear people’s
thoughts, including the
secrets of a captured terrorist. In Japan, a young man
(Masi Oka,
“Scrubs”) develops a way to stop time through sheer
will power. Their
ultimate destiny is nothing less than saving the
world. “Heroes” is
executive produced by creator/writer Tim Kring
(“Crossing Jordan),
Dennis Hammer (“Crossing Jordan”) and David Semel
(“House”), who also
directed the pilot. The drama is from NBC Universal
Television Studio.

JERICHO (Wednesday, 8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) is a drama
about what happens
when a nuclear mushroom cloud suddenly appears on the
horizon,
plunging the residents of a small, peaceful Kansas
town into chaos,
leaving them completely isolated and wondering if
they’re the only
Americans left alive. Fear of the unknown propels
Jericho into social,
psychological and physical mayhem when all
communication and power is
shut down. The town starts to come apart at the seams
as terror, anger
and confusion bring out the very worst in some
residents. But in this
time of crisis, as sensible people become paranoid,
personal agendas
take over and well-kept secrets threaten to be
revealed, some people
will find an inner strength they never knew they had
and the most
unlikely heroes will emerge. Skeet Ulrich (“Scream”),
Gerald McRaney
(“Ike: Countdown to D-Day”), Ashley Scott (“Dark
Angel”), Pamela Reed
(“Proof of Life”), Kenneth Mitchell (“The Recruit”),
Lennie James
(“Sahara”), Sprague Grayden (“Six Feet Under”),
Michael Gaston
(“Prison Break”) and Erik Knudsen (“Saw II”) star. Jon
Turteltaub
(“National Treasure”), Stephen Chbosky (“Rent”) and
Carol Barbee
(“Judging Amy”) are executive producers for CBS
Paramount Network
Television, in association with Junction
Entertainment.

“Six Degrees” (one-hour, Thursday, 10:00 p.m., ET) –
Who will you
touch? Who will touch you? They say that anyone on the
planet can be
connected to any other person through a chain of six
people, which
means that no one is a stranger… for long. In this
hour-long drama
from the producers of “Lost” and “Alias,” six very
different New
Yorkers go about their lives without realizing the
impact they’re
having on one another – yet. A mysterious web of
coincidences will
gradually draw these strangers closer, changing the
course of their
lives forever. Is it happenstance? Fate? Is there a
greater force at
work in our world, guiding us along and connecting our
lives? This
intriguing tale of intertwined destinies reminds us
that romance,
success, peace or forgiveness might be right around
the corner, but
they can also be lost in an instant. It’s a story that
underlines just
how small the world really is, and how someone just
five people away
might be shaping our future right now. Jay Hernandez
(“Friday Night
Lights”), Erika Christensen (“Flightplan”), Bridget
Moynahan (“Sex and
the City”), Dorian Missick (“Lucky Number Slevin”),
Hope Davis (“About
Schmidt”) and Campbell Scott (“The Secret Lives of
Dentists”) star.

I’ve included Six Degrees because it may turn
out like Lost: the initial press doesn’t
sound much like genre entertainment, but we may
realize that that’s exactly what it is at some point
during the season. I’ll continue to watch and review
Smallville this fall, and will likely be
checking out Heroes as well. If you want
reviews of anything else, speak up now, and my fellow
authors and I will see if anyone has time to do it.

  1. Eastern Time!
You probably should note, just for completeness, that those schedules are Eastern/Pacific time, and folks like me have to do that mental "move everything off an hour" dance.

    • Nothin’ new under the sun
Well, Jericho obviously revisits those fun-loving apocalyptic dramas of the Cold War, updated for the War on Terrorism. The other two are clearly X-Men and Crash for television.

I guess we’ll have to see whether the scripts are more original than the premises. Any of these could be good or disastrous.

X-Men, or The 4400 (which is part X-Men itself). Also, Jericho could be an updated version of a mostly-forgotten (for good reason) FOX "Whoops!".

Jericho sounds like Lost where the castaways didn’t have to go anywhere–they’re castaways at home.

My first thought regading Jericho was that it’s probably a remake of "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street" with "monsters" replaced with "terrorists." This could be promising if they’re willing not to be completely PC and write a show that will make people think. The other two, I’ll have to wait and see.

  2. fall schedule
Maybe we’re missing what’s NOT on the schedule. There’s no sign of Battlestar Galactica on NBC (knock on wood). Hopefully, that means it will stay on SciFi and remain excellent.

      Whoot!

  3. When is this?
    When does this "Fall" start?

I live near the equator, we don’t have a fall :)

I’m confused too, in Canada all we have is "winter" and "the month of July" ;-)

I hear tell that it’s this mythical time when it’s not quite summer (or "July") any more but it’s not quite winter. Personally, I think it’s just a marketing fiction used to make people think there’s something magical about when reruns end and new episodes being. :)

      • Happy Victoria Day!

I’ve always seen us as having summer, fall, winter, fall, winter, fall, winter winter winter winter, spring, winter, spring, whoops, winter again, this could be summer… damn it’s winter again, spring, summer, fall…..

Of course, winter may interrupt any of these seasons for an uncertain amount of time and for no apparent reason.

Sorry, can’t resist. So what would it be like if winter interrupted winter?

            We wear an extra layer.
