The volume of releases is starting to come up, if not the quality.
First, the genre releases:
- Ah! My Goddess – Last Dance (Vol. 6)
- Dragon Drive – Complete Collection 2
- Femme Fatale Collection: Why is a collection of characters known for film noir appearing in the genre list? Because the movies they chose to include are Devil Girl From Mars, The Astounding She-Monster and Mesa of Lost Women.
- I Dream of Jeannie – Season Two
- Masters of Horror – Joe Dante
- Pooh’s Anniversary Collection
- X – Remix Collector’s Set
Now, the non-genre releases:
- 30 Days – Season One
- Basic Instinct 2 (Unrated): I assume that anyone who actually buys this won’t be looking for the rated edition.
- Chaplin Mutual Comedies: Restored 90th Anniversary Edition
- Class Trip: A psychological thriller that did well at Cannes.
- Classic Comedies From Hollywood’s Golden Age: 15 feature films. Some of them I’ve seen, and they are quite funny.
- A Different World, Season Two
- The Ellen Show – The Complete Series
- ER – Complete Fifth Season
- Grand Prix: John Frankenheimer directs James Garner and Eva Marie Saint.
- McCallum – The Complete Series
- Murder in Suburbia – Series One
- Perry Mason, Season One, Volume One: These 19 episodes were half the first season.
- Pink Floyd – Pulse
- Reno 911 – The Complete Third Season
- Weeds – Season One
Finally, the pick of the week. To be honest, nothing jumps out at me this week. My advice is to wait until next week, when we’ve got far more high quality items to choose from.
Genre?
Urm… thanks for explaining why the femme fatales are in the Genre list… could you please also explain why winnie the pooh is in there?…
Re: Genre?
Fantasy + Animation = Genre x 2
According to Amazon (at least, if I’m reading it correctly) this appears to be only the ‘new’ Pooh movies (Pooh’s Heffalump Movie, The Tigger Movie, and Piglet’s Big Movie), not the shorts from the 60’s and 70’s that most of us grew up watching.
Re: Genre?
Wait… any animation movie is automatically genre?
Also, I’d differentiate between fantasy and fairy tale…
See, I never saw any pooh movie or short or anything. My mom used to read us the stories, though.
Re: Genre?
Can you name one that isn’t? The only thing that comes to mind for me is Grave of the Fireflies, and even that has ghosts.
How?
Re: Genre?
Pooh is on the list because it’s fantasy, even if it is the particular flavour of fantasy we call a fairy tale. Animation is not automatically on the list in most cases. (I list unfamiliar anime with the genre stuff because that’s a safe bet, but I could be wrong.) Titles like The Sweater, Breath of a Nation and Begone Dull Care, though all great examples of the variety of animation, are not genre, and would not be listed among genre releases.
