The 4400 Discussion Graduation Day

valen1260 writes, Has the Bureau given up on this show? Are people still interested in disussing it? (Am I the only one still watching it?)

It’s a fair enough question. Is anyone else watching it?

  1. Season 3
I was angry at the season premiere for what seemed a blatant rip-off (which I posted, for better or worse, here). But, the show rebounded, and I thought "Gone" set up the season-to-come (and some questions no one seemed eager to discuss ;) with a great twist in part 1.

Now, continuing my comparison to Rising Stars (I can’t help it), I think not only do we have a "failsafe" in Isabelle, but it seems some of the Returnees’ powers may be only for the benefit of the other Returnees. For example "Miles" power seems utterly useless, except for digging up the past. (In contrast, Alana has the power only to fabricate memories. The fact that she wanted to help Miles by giving him memories with his brother that his brother wouldn’t share is disturbing.)

Also, I thought it was an interesting play by Baldwin to show his hand. But it shows he’s not willing to just believe the people from the future, who we now know seem to represent two diametric factions. It makes sense that if one side had time-travel, the other would soon also be able to use it (see also, Terminator).

I think The 4400 might finally be attempting to address the real lack of character development. With such a huge cast and such short seasons, I haven’t expected much. Now, though, I think we’re starting to see some depth to Baldwin, Isabelle, and dearly-departed Matthew.

Finally, two questions: When will we see Jordan again? And why would Isabelle go see Ryland?

Its a decent show, I like it, and watch it. It has its issues, and some of them are really showing cracks now, but overall its a good show. I really don’t care for the Isabelle character, she seems so… Cliche? I dunno, something about the character lacks originality.

  3. No more interference!
I like that the 4400 aren’t an immediate success; the plans of the future are not turning out quite how they like. However, if that means they keep interfering then it severely undercuts the integrity of the storyline. I’m really hoping we don’t ever see the future people again.

I, too, don’t care for Isabelle. She annoys me. Baldwin needs to kill her this season.

I get the feeling the interference from the future people was a "show reset". Kill off some characters that weren’t working, redirect the "purpose" of the show some, introduce Isabelle as a more powerful and immediate threat. The problem is they keep re-resetting the show:

Lets try killing off Jordan Collier. Still not working…
Lets give Diana a daughter (Maia). Nope still not working…
Let’s get rid of Kyle… mmm not right yet…
Tom and Diana have no chemistry, let’s introduce a new character so Tom can have a love interest. Hmm still not working…
Let’s kill off Lily and introduce a new character, Isabelle, as a powerful threat. Hmmm… not working yet…
Let’s get rid of Diana’s daughter Maia… still not working…
      Let’s bring Maia back again…

This show was always just so-so because the writing is sloppy. Every episode has characters doing things that are stupid or out of character. I knew that right away from the first episode when they were shooting missiles at the incoming comet WHEN IT WAS STILL PAST THE MOON! Didn’t anyone tell the writers we can’t shoot missiles past the Moon, and if we could it would take longer than a few minutes to get there?!

      Yet still I watch…

  4. Nope.
The first season was fantastic, but I stopped watching after Magical Alien Space Baby. It was a little too remniscent of V: The Final Battle for me.

  5. Diana’s New Man
Anybody who’s still watching The 4400 know who Diana’s new man is? He is SO fine, looks very familiar. Was on Sunday, August 13 2006 episode.
