‘Snakes’ Slither to the Top…Sorta

Factoring in the Thursday night preview, SOAP takes the top spot. If you subtract that extra $1.4 million, it only makes it to #2. All in all, a pretty weak weekend at the box office. Meanwhile, Pirates, after 7 weeks, still hangs onto the top ten, and is now the 6th highest grossing film of all time.

  1. Snakes on a Plane*
  2. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
  3. World Trade Center
  4. Accepted*
  5. Step Up
  6. Barnyard: The Original Party Animals
  7. Little Miss Sunshine
  8. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest
  9. Material Girls*
  10. Pulse

Not making the list, but still a new genre release: The Illusionist. It only made #18, but was only shown at 51 theaters, which makes it the highest grossing per-theater.

Snakes on a Plane was a crappy movie but the experience was fun as hell. The showing I went to on Friday had Samuel L. Jackson impersonators and people with rubber snakes around their necks.

All through the movie there were hillarious comments from the crowd and everyone was really enjoying themselves. The movie itself never took itself seriously one bit.

My only complaint was a cheesy music video during the end credits which I think did try to take itself seriously and failed miserably. Samuel L. Jackson’s obvious "I’m doing this cameo in this horrible video because it was in the contract" was the worst.

The Rocky Horror of our generation I say :)
