Weekly Comics Discussion – September 20, 2006

The complete list is in the usual spot. Today is a big day for those of us following the Civil War from Marvel, with the first major casualty. (To give some perspective: if they’re billing this as the first major casualty, you know it’s someone more prominent than any New Warrior.) • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic #8

DC Comics

  • 52 #20
  • Batman Chronicles Vol. 2
  • Flash #4
  • Ion
  • Krypto the Super Dog #1
  • Robin #154
  • Superman #656

Marvel Comics

  • Astonishing X-Men #17
  • Blade #1
  • Civil War #4
  • Civil War X-Men #3
  • Exiles #86
  • Fantastic Four Visionaries: John Byrne Vol. 6
  • Moon Knight #5

  1. Casualty
I’m not keeping up with that series but would like to know who the casualty is. Would someone please reply with the name (spoilered, of course)?

The casualty is Bill Foster, the new Goliath.

Ya know, I expected someone I know.
I would have accepted someone I’ve heard about before…

Just some background on him: He first appeared around issue 30 as the biochemistry expert Hank Pym went to for help when he found himself stuck at the 10" size, just after assuming the name Goliath for himself. They spent a couple of issues working on it, and then Bill finally told the man he knew only as Goliath that he was unable to help, but that a man named Hank Pym would almost certainly know the answer. He cropped up once in a while since then, and only became Goliath relatively recently. (I don’t know exactly when.) He’s been a tangential character for years, but usually as the scientist rather than a superhero.

Ditto. At least DC, when they did the first crisis series, killed off a well-known character (the Flash).
