‘Heroes’ Discussion (Series Premier)

Anyone else catch the debut of NBC’s foray into genre television? Was it worth another viewing? And who the hell is the girl in the mirror?

Missed it? You can download the premier episode from NBC.com or watch the repeat tonight.

  1. Worth another viewing? Yes.
That girl in the mirror is Bad Niki. :)

I think it’s worth keeping an eye on this show. I kept getting a vibe from The 4400 off of this show. I wonder if NBC decided to give that premise another shot on their flagship network, and that’s how we ended up with Heroes.

  2. Heroes
While I went in expecting the worst, I was pleasantly surprised. I actually enjoyed the show and am looking forward to the next episode.

  3. I’d download it but…
For some reason (I’m assuming a buttload of money) NBC seems to be limiting downloads to people who have an Intel ViiV or Centrino processor.

Guess I’ll have to hunt for a torrent.

limiting downloads to people who have an Intel ViiV or Centrino processor.

I really wish they’d include these caveats in the text next to the link.

I came here looking for you, or others like you, warning me about the specific reason why THIS official download sucks.
      They always suck…

    • Heroes on iTunes
Did anyone else get a card to download the pilot for free off iTunes? I went to see Invincible in a local theatre, and got just such a card. The buttload of money must have been going to that theatre, because everywhere I looked I saw some kind of ad for a new show on NBC.

I saw the pilot episode last week; I was sad that I would have to wait two weeks to see the next episode. I hope this series makes it.

    • ViiV SUCKS!

The whole point of the ViiV technology is to prevent you from exercising your Fair Use rights when you download media. Boicott ViiV content now!

Guess I’ll have to hunt for a torrent.

I encourage you to do so. Sometimes justice isn’t on "this" side of law.

  4. Has Potentional
For a mainstream network television show it has a lot of potential. The only one that had me confused was the las vegas person as I’d not heard of the doppleganger concept before.

Overall it looks very interesting and could go somewhere fun. I’ll keep giving it a try.

  5. A bit slow
I thought it was a bit slow and it looks like it is going to have too many heros since they are introducing more next week. I am curious to see where it will go and if any of the heros will turn out to be super villans:) I will give it at least two more showings before deciding.

I actually consider the slower pacing of the first episode to be a good sign for the series. Considering how many shows get badly rewritten and reworked by studio/network executives until the original premise gets lost or diluted, it’s nice to see NBC taking a chance on this one. While this episode was a bit slow I didn’t mind because I found it all interesting. It’s of course too early to call the show a "winner" but they’re laying some interesting groundwork.

And, a lot of characters can be a good thing, too. "Lost," for example, has a large number of characters but, because they’re all interesting, an episode can sort of spread out across many of them without losing focus. I don’t know if "Heroes" will be able to manage this but, again, only time will tell.

I agree on most of your points, I just don’t want it to have a soap opera feel to it. I really don’t care for Lost either.

  6. Multiple versions of the pilot

FYI to anyone that missed the broadcast and goes looking for a torrent, there has been a torrent out there for a while that i watched, and thought was just an AVI conversion of the iTunes pre-release version — but apparently it was a leaked copy.

what interesting about this leaked copy is that there are a few major differences between it and the broadcast version (which was apparently identical to the iTunes pre-release).

There is a brief summary on of the differences on another site targeted at people who watched the leaked copy.

For those who have only seen the broadcast version, you might be interested in the 4 major differences as they may give some insight into the future for the show (or some original plans that have been scraped)

    1. While walking down the road with her "friend" Claire (the cheerleader) is passed by a military style truck with some men (who make eye contact with her) and some "thing" in the back, and then quickly passed by a fire truck going the other direction (indicating the first truck was leaving the scene of the fire). Other people have suggested that these were terrorist stealing nuclear materials — not to mention the possibility that they come after her for seeing them.
    2. Micah (the young son of the online stripper Niki) is shown calling the train station to buy a ticket while at the babysitter’s house. Later, when Niki wakes up in the blood bath, it’s because the babysitter is leaving her a message that Micah is missing.
    3. Isaac (the painter) handcuffs himself to something when he decides he needs to quit drugs cold turkey to escape his visions. Later when Simone and Peter and peter come to his apartment to check on him, they don’t find him overdosed: they find he has cut off his own hand to get out of the handcuff (presumably because of his overwhelming need to paint his Apocalypse vision)
    4. At the end, when Peter (the nurse) jumps and his brother Nathan catches him in bid-air, the episode ends without Peter falling and it’s not entirely obvious whether or not they are "holding each other up".

…it will be interesting to see if any of these plot elements show up in future episodes.

  7. Looks promising
Though I have to say I was quite worried when one of the first scenes had a guy taking about how we only use 10% of our brains.

Suresh. Lots of Sureshes where you come from. Like Smith. Or Anderson.

  8. Fingers crossed
Maybe I’ll get a chance to watch the tape before tomorrow’s episode… Probably not….
