Lost Discussion: ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ (Season 3 Premier)

Jack, Kate, and Sawyer are held in unique circumstances by the mysterious “Others” as they are now prisoners in their camp. All three of them are kept in seperate quarters as they’ve been drugged and woken up with blood taken from them. The camp leaders, Henry Gale, Mr. Friendly and a new woman, Juliette try to make the castaways adjust to their new settings, as well as get them ready for some experiments. Lastly, flashbacks reveal more about Jack’s past with his father and wife Sarah.

  1. The crash
I liked seeing the crash from the Other’s perspective!

The elaborate, custom-designed mind games are interresting. I wonder if it’s just payback of if they’re going somwhere with all these charades.

Getting such a significant point of view shift first thing was great (spoilered, in case it’s not obvious, because at first, I thought it was a flashback to pre-island, not the island itself.)

Maybe I’m just a contrary cuss, but the stuff in Sawyer’s cage is so obviously a lab experiment, I’d refuse to play the game so long I wouldn’t be in shape to actually accomplish it by the time I gave up. Though I probably would find something to prod the button with so I could watch it generate ineffective shocks.

  2. Don’t miss the first 5 minutes…
Could anyone figure out what the book was in their discussion group? I could see it was a Stephen King book but didn’t recognize the cover.

      It was Carrie.

And did anyone hear the strange noises in the background? It could have been jungle animals, but to me it sure sounded a lot like the black smoke creature. Interesting episode.

  3. Cooperting with the others
I’ll just spoiler everything just in case:

While I expected Sawyer to perform the "lab rat" role as quickly as he did, I was expecting Jack and Kate to put up more of a fight than they did. I was hoping Kate would flip the table over or something.

There seemed to be some stuff missing with the Kate bit. She got those bruises / scratches on her wrists somehow. Either I missed something (?) somehow or they didn’t show everything that happened to her.
