There’s a lot of mediocrity this week, with a few gems mixed in.
First, the genre releases:
- Army of Darkness: This is a combination DVD and HD-DVD release. It doesn’t seem to include content not already available on previous editions.
- Aztec Mummy Collection: This seems to collect three Spanish horror films I’d never heard of before.
- The Butterfly Effect 2: At this point, there are two Amazon.com customer reviews and one editorial review, all of which are so negative that I’m tempted to find out exactly how bad it really is.
- Click
- Eastern Horror: Includes Devil’s Box, Calamity of Snakes, Devil Shadow, and Vampire Resurrection.
- Ed, Edd ‘n’ Eddy – The Complete First Season
- The Exorcist – The Complete Anthology: Both edits of the original, and all the sequels and prequels.
- Farscape – Season 4, Collection 3: If I’ve been counting correctly, this will be the last of the Starburst edition collection.
- The Fox and the Hound: The 25th Anniversary Edition
- Garfield – A Tail of Two Kitties
- Get Backers – Complete Season 1
- Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law, Vol. 2
- Hollywood’s Legends of Horror Collection: Warner does a great job on these boxed sets. This one includes Mark of the Vampire, The Mask of Fu Manchu, Doctor X, Mad Love, The Devil-Doll, and The Return of Doctor X.
- Ju-On 2: See the Japanese original before the English remake (The Grudge 2) hits theaters.
- The Munsters – America’s First Family of Fright: A documentary on the characters.
- Numb3rs – Complete Second Season: So, maybe it’s not sci-fi, but it’s definitely a geek show.
- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2
- Wonder Showzen – Season 2
Now, the non-genre releases:
- Bad Santa (Director’s Cut): I’m not sure how this differs from “Badder Santa.”
- Best of Bizarre: The Uncensored 1: I loved this show. It’s one of the funniest sketch comedies I’ve seen. It was originally a Canadian series, and it’s been available here in Canada for quite a while.
- Best of Bizarre: The Uncensored 2: Another collection of the show.
- Black Dahlia
- Black Rain (Special Collector’s Edition)
- Brideshead Revisited: A 25th Anniversary Edition.
- DVD Dance Pack Colection: This includes Grease, Saturday Night Fever, Footloose and Urban Cowboy.
- Edge of Your Seat Collection: Includes Kiss the Girls, Along Came a Spider, and Double Jeopardy, all of which star Ashley Judd.
- Everybody Hates Chris – The First Season
- Holiday Inn: The Christmas classic, a few weeks early.
- Magnum P.I. – The Complete Fifth Season
- Motion Picture Masterpieces Collection: Another Warner boxed set, including David Copperfield, Marie Antoinette, Pride and Prejudice, A Tale of Two Cities, and Treasure Island.
- Scrubs – Season Four
- Simon and Simon – Season One
- The A-Team – Season Five, The Final Season
- Too Cool For School – The John Hughes Collection: Includes Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Pretty In Pink and Some Kind of Wonderful.
Finally, the pick of the week. I’ve got to go with the first Bizarre release. It’s the rare sketch comedy that seems funny to sober people.
Strange
I think I remember "Bizarre"… was this on about 22 years ago? I was in Canada when I was 10 (I just depressed the hell out of myself) and I remember a very VERY odd and hillarious show… I think that was it’s name…
Re: Strange
That’s probably it, with John Byner.
Re: Strange
I was 10, I wasn’t reading the credits! (:
Aztec Mummy films
To make a long explanation short, they’re not so much "Spanish Horror" as "Mexican Lucha Libre Horror" films. They fall into the same vein, IIRC, as the El Santo series of films.
