  1. Desmonds slip of the tongue
    Just in case:

Apparently the magnetic field buildup / release at the end of last season has given Desmond the ability to see the future. How would he have known about Lockes speech otherwise?

Also, does anyone else think that maybe the "black smoke" that was seen as the defense mechanism in previous episodes may be some sort of entity (for lack of a better word) that has the ability to manifest itself in some sort of physical form (i.e. a polar bear)? Maybe it’s receptive to certain thought patterns like that of a child who may have been reading a comic book with a polar bear in it?

That would explain why it looked so bad, though it doesn’t explain why it’s so easy to get away from… I have to believe it’s only trying to scare them…

The cloud could be that way, but I believe its a real bear. The others specifically mentioned to Sawyer that the bears figured out how to get fish biscuits right away.

      It’s obvious.
      1) Desmond knows something of the future.
      2)Desmond is naked.

Quite clearly he’s beensent back from the future by Skynet

  2. Polar Bear
I do not think mentioning the appearance of the Polar Bear in this episode requires spoiler tags. I apologize if I am wrong.

I think that the cages and aquarium from the Other’s side of the island helps explain the Polar Bears. The guards even mentioned to Sawyer that "the bears" figured out the feeding mechanism quicker than Sawyer. The guard said "bears" plural. I would say that they are a breeding pair of polar bears that escaped from the zoo cages Sawyer is in now, perhaps during a previous "incident".

The flashbacks for Locke this episode implied he might have killed someone The flashback for Jack last episode implied he was extremely paranoid and unstable at one point.Jack’s Father was clean and sober. I can imagine that Jack FALSELY reported that his Father operated while drunk. He did this to get back at him for sleeping with Jack’s wife (which the Father didn’t do). The Father then goes on a drinking binge leading to his death.

If this plays out, and if Locke also is responsible for the death of someone, then most of the people on the Island are responsible for the death of someone directly or indirectly.
    Just a thought
