Ok, is Niki’s husband the same guy that blanks out peoples’
memories? Cause that’d be interesting, seeing as her powers involve blackouts and memory loss…

No. He is Charles Gunn from Angel :)

          No, he’s Forrest from Buffy.

Ahh, nuts! I always get those two confused.

  2. Peter’s Power
Very nifty! I like that they have a character who’s powers depend upon who he’s with. I guess we’ll see what happens once he’s in the same room as two people with different powers. It was hinted at earlier on, but now I think it’s safe to say it’s true.

I noticed that, too. It explains why he was unable to fly on his own. It also seems he’s not as good at the mimicked power as the original.

I think he’ll get better … it’s just a learning curve, and comparatively I think he’s farther along with his power then most of hte others: His brother seems to only be able to use his power under duress, the painter needs to be high, the cop has obvious problems with control, and the stripper has no control what so ever.

Hiro’s really the only one doing better then him at the moment. (You cna’t really count the cheerleader since her power is passive not active)

Has anyone noticed anything about Niki that distinguishes her "power" from multiple personality disorder? No one else has noticed her reflection behaving strangely so that could just be a trick of her mind trying to cope with the problem, and her "other" self is definitely more confident and aggressive but hasn’t displayed any superhuman traits either, unless the "other" has some enhanced strength or reflexes.

I asked the same question last week. In that post, I mentioned the Rising Stars character Critical Maas. The "weaker" of the two Maas personalities never demonstrated any powers. It wasn’t until the "stronger" one asserted control of her psyche that her powers were realized.

So, Niki = Critical Maas and Peter = X-Men’s Synch, with the others fitting more generic archetypes.

I think her power is super strength. Didn’t she say that one of the men in her trunk was torn in half? Also there was the threat of putting her heel through the guy’s skull.

I don’t think that’s in question. In next week’s preview, you see her toss D.L. across the room. Also, I don’t think it would take super strength to ram a high-heeled shoe through the temple, especially if it’s being worn.

Just a ‘back of the napkin’ number but assuming that heel had an area of 1 cm^2, It would take about .1 lbs of force to puncture the skull. There are some fudge factors… the temple is structurally weaker than say the crown, and there is the average carpentry nail needs about 1 pound of force to pierce skin, but the heel wasn’t that pointy.

So to be safe, lets say… 2 pounds of force to kill that goon.

There was a question either here or in last weeks’ lists about Nikki’s power. It almost seems like her power is the most simple, yet possibly the most desirable.

Her dopplganger has the power to do what must be done. Right now its all stress triggered, but I’m betting that Dark Nikki could be turned into "helper Nikki," with practice. The dopplganger isn’t a "dark" or "evil" version of Nikki. Its a version that has the drive, commitment, and inner strength to get the job done.

I’ll have to double check, but if I remember my biology correctly, for something like a stilleto heel, it would only tak e

  3. Save the cheerleader.
I got the realization last night, as the "Save the cheerleader. Save the world" commercial aired towards the end of the show, that they’re really going to drag this out. I’d bet saving the cheerleader from HRGM and/or Cylar (sp?) will take most of the season.

I would have to agree, this is going to be very drawn out. I haven’t been counting, does anyone know how much time has passed in the show? It feels like maybe a week, two at a stretch. I wondered a few weeks back, here, whether the show would progress with real world time, seeing as the show began in early October. But now I’m pretty sure it will take the whole season for them to reach the November 7th deadline of the nuking.

Don’t fall into the trap of thinking the nuclear weapon MUST BE the climax of the season.

Like in the series 24, when the nuke went off in like, episode 6, I think, and we found that there were much more important problems (like where the nuke came from and what they will do NEXT).

Maybe it WILL be the season cliffhanger… Or maybe they will skip right to it this Monday. Personally, I hope they stay close to 1:1 tiem and November 7 in the show happens the first week in November IRL.

All I can think of whenever they say "save the cheerleader," is "She’s the last person who needs saving. She’s indestructable."

I know she’s not indestructable. She can just put herself back together, so long as there isn’t a stake in her skull.

This suggests that her brain is somehow "in the loop" with her powers… I know that’s vague, I’ll try to refine it later.
Though, if you could cause enough head trauma… you might be able to kill her.

    • Re: Save the cheerleader.
I don’t think that Hiro came back to save the cheerleader as part of the effort to save New York.
Notice that in the train car, Hiro was speaking excellent English, was more confident and in charge and carried a big sword.
It seems unlikely that all that change could have been accomplished in less than 5 weeks.
I think his visit is a set up for post New York stories.
Man, this show is one great comic book.

  4. Nikki’s Husband
Reading the after show comic gives me the impression that DL is innocent.

One thought I had was could Nikki just be the set up for DL’s character? A guy who can pass through solid matter (Kitty Pride anyone?) who is married to a woman suffering from multiple personality disorder. He’s hanging around some thugs, hoping to make a quick buck, but then starts to realize the error of his ways/wants to set a better example for his kid and bails out on them. "EVIL!" Nikki, knowing they need money, decides to have the crew do some dirty work to get enough money to pay off her gambling habit, then kills them, buries them in the desert, and hides the gun in the house. The cops find the gun and because he was a known associate, assume it was DL. Thus, it was not just a coincidence that "EVIL!" Nikki had Nikki bury the bodies in the exact same spot of random desert that DL supposedly buried his crew in.

The overall tone of the show has given me the same impression.

…decides to have the crew do some dirty work to get enough money to pay off her gambling habit…

Gambling habit? I thought the money was for the snob school.

There has to be more to "Mirror Mirror" Niki knowing about the same spot. Maybe she worked with DL before. If they were ever close/intimate, maybe he knows about both Nikis.
