There’s a lot of cheap horror out this week, and not much else.
First, the genre releases:
- Classic Christmas Collection: Just what you’d expect on shelves for Halloween. Contains “It’s a Wonderful Life” (which is why it’s in the genre list) and “White Christmas” (which, on its own, would be below.)
- Condor Hero: Complete TV Series: The packaging has a photo, but the description says it’s animated.
- The Devil’s Rain: I’ve never heard of the movie or the studio, but it stars Ernest Borgnine, Tom Skerritt, Eddie Albert, William Shatner, Ida Lupino, Keenan Wynn, and John Travolta. Average IMDB user rating: 3.1/10. That really, really piques my interest.
- Ghost in the Shell SAC Complete First Season: That’s quite the box.
- Ghost Whisperer – The Complete First Season: I enjoyed the first few episodes, but stopped tuning in because it was just plain depressing. The episodes were well written, acted, and produced, but when every episode involves people in mourning, it puts a damper on things.
- Gravitation TV Series: The Thinpak Collection.
- Heartstopper
- It’s a Wonderful Life: This time, it’s the 60th Anniversary Edition.
- Saiyuki: Complete Collection
- Scream Pack: Includes “Kiss of the Tarantula,” “Don’t Look in the Basement,” and “Don’t Open The Door.”
- Sonic X – Complete Fifth Season
- Super Mario Bros. Super Show! Volume 2
- Tales from the Crypt – Complete Fifth Season
Now, the
non-genre releases:
- Acapulco H.E.A.T. – Complete Second Season: Thus endeth the series.
- Anastacia: Not the animated version, or the pop singer.
- The Benny Hill Collection
- C.S.I. Miami – Complete Fourth Season
- Essential Ernest Collection: Listed here, not because I would suggest purchasing it, but because I can’t believe someone actually describes any Ernest product as “Essential.” I do give them credit for the Halloween release, though; I can think of nothing scarier than the sheer number of releases in this series, implying some form of profitability and fan acceptance.
- George Burns – The TV Specials Collection
- Hardcastle and McCormick – The Complete First Season
- Kids in the Hall – Complete Season 5: I crush your head. Crush! Crush!
- The Tarzan Collection Vol. 2: These all star Johnny Weissmuller.
Finally,
the pick of the week. I think the best advice I can give this week is to save your pennies for November, when we get the landslide of quality pre-Christmas releases.
yawn
Yet another week where I don’t hve to spent money on stuff I don’t need.
Well, not DVDs, anyway.
In dead Ernest….
The Ernest Halloween film begins with a witch putting a curse on the Puritan judge who sentences her to death. His descendents will become stupider with each generation. As I wrote elsewhere when I reviewed it, this would explain the audience for these movies.
Re: In dead Ernest….
Ernest Scared Stupid isn’t even in this set. This collects the Ernest movies so bad that they didn’t rate a theatrical release.
