  1. what?
Is that like the TV Guide description? Cause it really… doesn’t seem like whoever wrote it watched the show.

TiVo cut off the last few seconds on me… right after Micah hangs up the phone (well, his dad does) and the narrator starts talking… did I miss anything important?

I was going to say last week that I bet the kid has some neat powers, seeing as both his parents have ’em. I was right!

    And where’s the BSG discussion?

I don’t remember what the narrator was blathering on about after the kid got off the phone. It was definitely cool when Micah showed his power. I really don’t like Niki. I think she needs to be killed off. This episode didn’t offer much. Obviously, the heroes are meeting up in NYC where they will presumably fight crime and save the world. Wheeeee…..

Some of them, perhaps, but there’s a contingent that has to make a stop in Texas first…you know, to "save the cheerleader."

As for how much this episode offered, it gave us one thing that was absolutely huge: The likely [original] source of the mushroom cloud in the painting. Given the fellow’s powers, it also makes clear why Claire has to be saved – she’s probably the only person who can get close enough to the guy (or Sylar if he’s power-stealing) in order to stop him without blowing him up. It also gave us a possible insight into what Claire’s dad and his organization are up to. Could the implants in nuclear guy and Matt be as innocuous as "tag and release" so that people with superpowers can be tracked? Or, considering that Matt’s telepathy has been harder to control, could they be using some kind of technology (or the creepy mind-wiping guy with the implants as trackers) that "unlocks" the person’s abilities to a fuller extent?

I actually thought this episode offered more than usual, though it might have been too subtle.

Spoiler protected: I wondered about the markings on their shoulders myself. It appears so far that many of the "bad" people with powers have that odd marking that looks sort of like a fancy cursive f or s. Perhaps the two little markings are on those who are "good" – I’m sure it can work either way, not sure how else to explain it. Nikki has no marking but when she is "Jessica" she has it on the back of her shoulder.

Either way, there is something up with it, but I have no idea what yet…

I disagree. Just because he’s radioactive doesn’t mean he’s explosive. Though, you do have an interesting point about Claire. However, Peter is the Synch. Sylar just seems to be super strong or possibly a TK.

I think you might have hit on something here. I think he’s having trouble controlling it because it’s becoming stronger. Whether it’s been "turned on" or just is naturally emerging is something we’ll have to watch to learn.

As far as nit-picking goes, I’m glad Micah recognized Ando, though I was hoping Hiro and DL would link up. I’m also glad Micah realizes Niki has multiple personalities. He’s a smart kid, and his power was pretty cool.

Also, Nathan made an interesting aside last night. If you look at most of the Heores, with the exception of maybe Hiro and Claire, their powers are pretty useless. Most are not really endowed to wage war. For example, Nathan can fly, but can easily be shot. As could Matt or DL. That leads me to believe that their "mission" will be less personally endangering and more… James Bond-like.

I’m tired of waiting for Peter to realize what his true power is. If Peter’s power is going where it could go, then if he’s around multiple Heroes, he could potentially become the Super Hero.

True, but he voiced the fear himself that if killed he could explode. Maybe that foreshadowing is too obvious and just a red herring, but it’s not implausible (or at least, not more so than the rest of the show).

Though, you do have an interesting point about Claire. However, Peter is the Synch. Sylar just seems to be super strong or possibly a TK.

The problem here is that his motivation for [apparently] targeting super-powered people in his killing spree hasn’t been made clear. I’m going on the assumption that targeting their brains has more significance than just a dose of the crazy.

            Are they implants or markings?

Good point. I couldn’t tell and may have just been going with an assumption based on years of silly conspiracy theory stories. ;)

I think he knows (he did note in a previous episode that he could only fly in proximity with his brother, and his painting in the last episode had to make it clearer to him). The whole "I can fly and I’m going to do it in front of your guest" schtick was just a bluff to put his brother off-guard. It’s also possible that he just doesn’t want to reveal his true ability to his brother given their strained relationship and what I consider the very real possibility that if Nathan figures it out he could simply have Peter put away someplace where he would have no contact with super-powered people and thus be unable to prove that he’s not crazy.

Remember that when Claire had that stick ramed through head, she didn’t heal, until said stick was removed.

Agreed. The part about Hiro describes his story last week while this week he actually did some good.

Presumably, the discussion of last week’s BSG will begin once Eldhrin gets a chance to do his review thing. Patience, grasshopper. ;)

Patience? By now I’ve forgotten everything I wanted to say!

Well, I did write that on Tuesday. Now that it’s just a day until the next episode, I’ll agree that it’s getting late. :)

  2. Where’s the spectacled man?
Wait, did this episode show Claire’s father? I must have missed that part.

Yeah, it was in the "Previously on Heroes" part.

  3. Die Niki Die!
I was soooo disappointed that Niki didn’t stay dead after the "Hiro" episonde. Way to wimp out NBC. You chould have done something daring (like kill off a blond); but no, that would have been that didn’t sucketh.

Well, other than everyone’s favorite best friend since kindergarten, Greg Grunberg, Ali Larter was the only other name I recognized before the show started.

Anyone who doesn’t recognize Adrian Pasdar really, really needs to track down Profit and watch it. The show was co-created and frequently written by Angel alum David Greenwalt. This is, to my knowledge, the earliest example of Fox cancelling a fantastic show way too soon.

I’ll offer up an amen to that. Pasdar played one of the best bad buys I’ve seen written for TV and the show was just beautifully done overall. I was bitter as hell when it was cancelled so fast. Somehow I missed its release on DVD and I’ll be picking it up ASAP.

The other starring TV villain that springs to mind is Sheriff Lucas Black on American Gothic, a series that debuted and was cancelled the year before Profit.

Once upon a time, in 1993, there was a show called The Adventures of Brisco Country Jr.

I have seen Profit years ago and thinking back to it, it’s really astonishing how relevant it would still be – perhaps even more relevant than ten years ago.

While not my favorite character (that would be Hiro of course), I don’t understand the massive amount of hate toward Niki on here. I kinda like her character, I like the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide of it all. To me it would not have been a good idea to kill her off, theres a whole dynamic between her, DL and Micah that I like, with the poor little tyke being pulled both ways.

A thought about Nikki… Is Jessica an intrinsic function of her powers? Or do the powers reside in the body, and Jessica is the product of a "normal" multiple personality disorder? IIRC, MPD is thought to be a response to childhood abuse. Furthermore, if I recall a couple Discovery channel specials, one or more of the personalities tend to take a "caretaker" role. Now if we port this into a person who realizes that they can litterally rip a human body to shreds, it doesn’t seem like a massive leap that this caretaker could evolve into a "protector" role, where that personality comes out times of stress or trauma. Normally MPD serves to isolate traumatic memories from the conscious mind. Jessica’s role in Nikki’s psychee would be to
        a) prevent the accumulation of more bad experiences/memories
        b) isolate the memory of any "distasteful" actions taken to protect the main persona.

If any of this is even close to right, then Nikki should be able to tap Jessica’s strength.

Okay, I’ll stop talking… for now.
