Christmas is coming, so the releases are still coming out in spades. November is a huge month for this sort of thing.
First, the genre releases:
- 3rd Rock From The Sun – Season Six: The final season.
- Adventures of Superman – The Complete Fifth and Sixth Seasons: This includes the final season of this series. (This will be a theme today.)
- Adventures of the Gummi Bears, Vol. 1 – Seasons 1-3: How many cartoons are based on candy?
- Bah, Humduck! A Looney Tunes Christmas: The Looney Tunes version of “A Christmas Carol.”
- Chip ‘n’ Dale Rescue Rangers – Volume 2: An entertaining cartoon, and inspiration for one of the old 8 bit Nintendo system’s best lisenced games.
- Christmas Evil: I’ve never heard of it, but it’s hard to walk away from a title like that.
- The Da Vinci Code: Available in the regular two disk edition, or in a deluxe giftset edition.
- Duck Tales – Volume Two: Much like the Chip ‘n’ Dale set, this collects episodes from an entertaining cartoon that inspired a fun NES game.
- Forbidden Planet: This two disk 50th anniversary special edition presents one of the most respected sci-fi flicks ever made. Also available in an Ultimate Collector’s Edition, a standard HD DVD edition, and the Ultimate Collector’s HD DVD Edition.
- Full Metal Panic! – Second Raid v. 1: Also available as a Starter Set, whatever that is.
- Fullmetal Alchemist The Movie – The Conqueror of Shamballa: A Limited Edition
- The Green Mile: A two disk special edition.
- Guyver – Days of Future Part (Vol. 1)
- Independence Day – 10th Anniversary: This wasn’t terrible, but could have been a heck of a lot better.
- Jekyll and Hyde – The Musical: Starring David Hasselhoff. I’m betting it’s a lot funnier than it was intended to be.
- King Kong: The three disk extended version of Peter Jackson’s movie.
- King Kong (Deluxe Extended Limited Edition DVD Gift Set): Complete with statue.
- Lois and Clark – The New Adventures of Superman – The Complete Fourth Season: Again, the final season.
- Looney Tunes – Golden Collection, Volume Four: I loved the first three, though the “best of” format does imply that they will eventually deteriorate.
- Quantum Leap – The Complete Fifth Season: The final season, with an excellent series finale.
- Stargate SG1 – Seasons 1-9: All seasons currently available, in one set.
Now, the non-genre releases:
- The Best of the Electric Company – Volume 2: Great children’s programming.
- Bing Crosby: Screen Legend Collection: A five movie set from Universal studios.
- CSI: Season Six: This is one of the best shows on the air right now. Earlier seasons were better, in my opinion, as they still had more of the actual CSI science, but it’s still good.
- Cary Grant: Screen Legend Collection: Like the Bing Crosby set, it’s a five movie collection.
- Columbo – Complete Sixth and Seventh Seasons: These were the last two seasons on the original network. I don’t know if the later series and movies will ever be released, but I sincerely hope they do. This is a fantastic show.
- Family Guy – Vol. 4 (Season Four, Part Two)
- Friends – The Complete Series Collection: I have no idea if this differs from “The One With All Ten Seasons” in anything but packaging.
- The Golden Girls – The Complete Sixth Season
- The Groomsmen
- Gunsmoke – The Directors Collection
- He Changed Our World – Steve Irwin Memorial Tribute
- Home Improvement – The Complete Fifth Season
- Homicide Life on the Street – Complete Series Megaset
- John Tucker Must Die
- Joyeux Noel: A Christmas war movie.
- NCIS Naval Criminal Investigative Service – The Complete Second Season
- Northern Exposure – The Complete Fifth Season
- The Paul Newman Collection: Another Warner box set, so you know these will be well transferred to DVD.
- Six Feet Under – The Complete Series Gift Set: That’s a neat looking box.
Finally, the pick of the week. This is a tough one, with a number of serious contenders. Columbo, CSI, Forbidden Planet and the Looney Tunes Golden Collection could all claim the top spot this week, but I’ll have to go with Columbo once again.
