February is upon us, and the quality of releases is improving dramatically.

First, the genre releases:

• The Amazing Screw-On Head: Starring Paul Giamatti and David Hyde Pierce.
• Charmed – Complete Seventh Season: Season eight was the last, and is expected by the end of the year.
• Cinderella III – A Twist In Time
• Disaster! The Movie: The link leads to the unrated edition.
• Escaflowne – The Movie
• For Your Eyes Only: Available individually for the first time in years. Other Bond titles are similarly available. Roger Moore is Bond.
• Goldeneye: Pierce Brosnan’s first outing as Bond, in a film named after the property Fleming was on when he created the character.
• Goldfinger: Sean Connery’s Bond can spot an attacker reflected in the eye of the woman he’s making out with. I’d have thought that the first sign of danger would be that they both had their eyes open during the lip lock…
• The Grudge 2: Unrated director’s cut.
• Here Comes Mr. Jordan
• Incubus: The recent Tara Reid movie, not to be confused with the Shatner classic.
• James Bond Ultimate Edition Bundle: All four of last year’s sets, packaged together at a greatly reduced price. (It works out to $9 a movie.)
• Joseph Campell – The Hero’s Journey: While not strictly genre itself, it certainly discusses genre material at length.
• The Last Unicorn
• Licence to Kill: Dalton is Bond.
• Robotech – The Shadow Chronicles Movie: A sequel to the original series.
• The Spy Who Loved Me: Roger Moore again.
• Teen Titans – Trouble In Tokyo
• Thunderball: Connery in the movie he’d remake as “Never Say Never Again.”

Now, the non-genre releases:

• After Innocence: At the time of this writing, the description seems to be for the latest in the “Masters of Horror” line.
• Alfred Hitchcock Box Set: Includes “The Manxman,” “Murder!”, “Rich and Strange,” “The Ring” and “The Skin Game,” all of which are from his earlier, British period.
• All Quiet on the Wester Front: The classic war film.

Finally, the pick of the week.
I’d have to go with the James Bond set. It may not be cheap, but it’s certainly cost effective, and includes 20 of the 23 Bond movies that are out there. (It doesn’t include “Never Say Never Again” or either version of “Casino Royale.”)
