  1. Slow…
A lot of motion in this episode, but not much fire. Two guys we don’t particularly care for get killed, and there are some (more) future threats. I wasn’t exactly disappointed, but I could have skipped this episode without much loss. I haven’t been able to say that about Heroes before.

It must have been a slow episode because I can’t even remember who got killed.

Oh, now I remember. It was fat-diamond-buyer and furniture-melter. I wouldn’t call killing a character a few minutes after their introduction to be memorable in any way…

But since when does mind-reading help you survive a fall out a window onto a steel beam?
Plus, wouldn’t any decent crime-scene control notice the open briefcase that wasn’t there a few minutes before, over in the cubicle where the guy they consider a lousy cop was standing?

Not to mention when there’s $2 million in diamonds at stake, who *doesn’t* check the ceiling tiles? Though to be fair, if you think someone was shot for them, you don’t expect them to be left in the vicinity. Still, I agree, this was the first disappointing episode of the series. It felt like they brought in interns to write it while the real writers were off doing the season wrapup episodes.

I dunno, but I guess Jessica was thinking VERY QUIETLY whilst sneaking up behind him.

…where the guy they consider a lousy cop was

And how far would saying "He gave me this one diamond… and before I got thrown out of the window he came out of this cubicle, so perhaps we should investigate here…" go toward changing that perception of him? What a dumbass.

When she said "You can hear Nikki?" I think they were trying to establish that she’s figured out his power. That’s how I rationalized that scene anyway.

So, she’s thinking "Don’t think about sneaking up behind him." instead? Just because she figured it out doesn’t mean she can do anything about it.

She may have had the first instinct I had when Matt was introduced, and confirmed last week: he can "hear" thoughts when they are imagined in the form of speech, but can’t pick up on images. (He did, after all, find it impossible to distinguish between thoughts and speech.) Thus, she can hit him through the blind spot his wife revealed last week, and visualize what she’s going to do without associating any words with it. She can think and plan as needed, but he won’t hear her coming. (It’s what I would have done in her position.)

It’s a classic low-level telepathy power to hear surface thoughts. Usually followed by learning to shield your mind, and then they move into mind probes. If fatso the dyslexic cop can manage any of the fancy stuff, that is.

It does mean, however, that Nicky can warn him if Jessica is coming at him (assuming, again, that she can wake up long enough to think of that herself). By extension, it also means that our munchkin sponge, Peter, can hear Nicky, which might come in handy.

Well, I do find it quite creepy that Sylar is assuming the identity of the guy who’s brain he ate. Wearing the guy’s shirt and all…

Well, to build a fire, you’ve got to spend a lot of time stacking wood. (Anybody else here ever been to the Starwood festival? On the last night they burn a fire the size of a small house. Takes all week to set it up.)

In any game, some time has to be spent just moving pieces around; in any story, there’s moving characters around. IMHO the presence of such interludes is a sign of mature storytelling rather than flash-bang.

At the end of the ep, Sylar’s undercover with Suresh. Parkman’s had a near death experience and become a crook. Claire and Nathan have seen each other – you know that they’re going to have to end up meeting again through Peter. Claire will certainly go ballistic on HRG or the Hatian now that her mom’s been pretty much mindwiped. These are all big deals.

  2. missed something?
My cable guide mentioned Simone looking for Peter and listed Eccleston as a guest star. Did I miss that, or maybe develop amnesia?

I didn’t see him, either. There have been other discrepancies with the TV Guide; my bet is that information goes out to the TV guide before the final edit of an episode is made, and that they look at the heavy continuity and serial nature and sometimes rearrange the end of one episode and the start of the next one, so a mild cliffhanger becomes a great teaser.
