  1. Best episode in a while
This episode had more of a Lost feel to it than anything we’ve seen in a while. Desmond’s back story was much more compelling that whats-her-names last week, and we even find out a lot without being strung along too much. I also liked the lady from the jewelry store alot. She had a real "Matrix Oracle" vibe (the first one, not the second) that really seemed to fit in Lost.

The forshadowning about Charile’s dodging fate was really good, although the whole Final Destination feel of it all isn’t terribly original .

Who is she, where’s she from? What’s her deal? Is she the kind of lady with a spooky store tht’s not there when you come back to complain about the curse on your jewelry?

So, Desmond’s mind when for a little trip when he blew up. Man, can you imagine being in a permanent state od déjà vu? Remembering things that haven’t happened yet… it must be pretty disorienting.

      • Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

Someone else pointed this out, and I’m not entirely convinced, but if it’s true, it’s huge: What happened to Desmond could potentially mean that every time we see someone’s flashback they are not really remembering — their consciousness is being taken back to that point in time, they just don’t know they are in control.

The "universe has a way of course correcting" keeps a lot of potential abuse of that at bay, but it’s still a good theory that explains an awful lot of the weird things we’ve seen.

Naaaah, they’d recognize the people from the island if that was the case, like Dez did with the hobbit.

Granted, but whatever happened to Desmond was special, as he can also control what he does. Perhaps someone else just needs to become aware of what’s happening to take advantage of it.

I disagree. With this exception, the flashbacks are just storytelling devices. The characters are actively engaged in other activities while their backstories are being presented to the viewers. Desmond, on the other hand, was unconscious and reliving or lucidly-dreaming his.

So, here’s another question: how much of the "future" did Desmond see? Most of what we saw him relive was his past, but he either must know enough of the future to save Charlie, or else was given a gift of Final Destination proportions by the charming Fionnula Flanagan. In other words, he has either been to both the past and the present (having foresight in a Merlin-esque sort of way) or can see the machinations of Death. (And I’ll stop there before getting into the possibility that maybe we’re still in a past Desmond is reliving.)

Finally, did he affect the "real past"? Is Penny still looking for him?

The "universe has a way of course correcting" keeps a lot of potential abuse of that at bay, but it’s still a good theory that explains an awful lot of the weird things we’ve seen.

          Now Lost quotes Scorpius?
