‘Lost’ Viewers?

Apparently ‘Lost’ may well apply to viewers of the ABC show, which reported its worst night to date for the February 14th show.

Personally I threw in the towel after the long mid-season break. I don’t think even the writers know what’s going on on the island.

Ditto. Though getting into Heroes, where they have just as many interesting and confusing things happen, but they actually do something with the reveals, and we actually learn things, they aren’t forgotten.

Like, remember that black horse that came out of nowhere for Kate? That happened in one episode, and we never saw it again, not even a reference. Or that dog, after they killed off whats her name. Or Jack’s dad’s body, since that casket was empty.

I think the writers are stoned, and are too concerned with being mysterious to make an actual narrative.

I’m ready to wait until it ends and just read the Wikipedia entry to find out what it all was.

I take from this that they’ve come no closer to any type of explanation about the island/what’s going on? Keep in mind I’ve only watched the first season – is it worth picking up the second season box if I get the chance, or should I bail now while I’ve got the chance?

I really want to know what’s in that hatch, why the numbers are bad, and whether or not Jack’s Dad is actually wandering the island as a member of the undead.

Of those, you learn what’s behind the hatch, and some really incomplete hand waving about the numbers.

        It’s not worth it.

Damn, I was really hoping for zombies

Well, the horse was referenced later… just a passing mention. It could just be a horse left over from Dharma zoological experiments, like the bears, or it could be a manifestation of her spirit animal, or both. I think we see the dog on the beach once in a while, with the cancer-free black woman, IIRC, and finally, Jack’s dad’s body could be in the ocean, or eaten by a bear, or whatever. The important thing is that Jack was seeing things.

I almost lost interest during the long break, but hey, it’s fun, and I happen to be home when it airs :)

I’m about ready to give up too. It’s unfortunate really, the first season was some great TV. It was obvious to me in the second season that they unnecessarily extended the show and basically had to do a lot of filler to make it work.

I also think they have too many writers. I don’t know what the average is for a show but 10 (with guest writers that have made it up to 15 at some points) seems like a lot to me. I know they’re not all working on one episode together but that’s also the problem with a narrative based show that depends more than anything on clues left from the episodes before it. There’s no cohesive plot in LOST yet to bring any of the crap we’ve seen together. I was hoping "The Others" would be that catalyst but instead they’re pretty much a sidestory in the grand scheme of things.

I have high hopes for Heroes which in all respects is avoiding all the bad things LOST is known for. BSG’s filler episodes were harder to swallow after experiencing LOST; here’s hoping they fix that next season. I hope this doesn’t get me lynched on here but I really liked LOST when it was just a show about a bunch of stranded passengers, not everything on TV has to be weird sci-fi.

Anywho, yeah… I’ll expect B:42 to do a plot for plot coverage of all the answers in a couple years :)

  2. Season 2, Ep 3
    Season 2, ep 3. …
That’s where I quit on LOST. The hatch was what I was curious about, and once I saw it… meh.

I still look at the B42 reviews though, just to see if anything ever does chance, but no.

The thing is: They have made it obvious that whatever you think you now this week will be revealed to be false within a month. EVERY SINGLE TIME. So basicly, they made it pointless to try to guess or figure anything out, since the only thing you can be sure of is that you have false information right now. And when they made it no fun to play along, I stopped.

I certainly agree with a few of the previous posters though… Heroes is good. It’s just a shame they put it right against 24.

  3. Season 2 Lost me
About 5 or 6 episodes into Season 2 lost me for the season. It got to the point that the way I watched the episode convinced me that 40 min of the show was the last show from someone else’s viewpoint and then the last 2 min showed something important that moved the story forward an inch only to get you to rinse and repeat.

Over the summer I kept seeing ‘oh it got much better’ so I netflixed the last few DVDs, watched them quick and then started watching season 3.

I’m almost done with it again now. That hiatus bullshit was ridiculous, they’ve effectively taken a 22 episode single season and stretched it out across what used to be two seasons, and you can bet money that they’ll break the DVD set into two and charge more for both.

That’s another rant I get off on thinking about this. More and more the tendancy is to have ‘part 1 and 2’ of a season and those of us that used to buy DVDs of the TV shows we love get screwed and they try and take more money from us now that they’ve figured out that some of us were willing to pay to watch reruns on our schedule not theirs.

BSG is guilty of this. I’m still dumb enough to fund that, but I’m not buying many other TV Shows on DVD anymore.

Someone else something similar: they’re too busy being mysterious. I like mystery. I think most people do. But for pete’s sake you HAVE to reveal something at some point. You can only string people along on hints for a short time. It doesn’t take too long before people want some answers and some progress. There is enough potential on the island to fill many seasons with quality content, but they’re wasting their time telling us tiny little things that don’t matter. They need to spend some time filling in the gaps they left in the past and then get into season 4 with some major changes.

And YES, this two-part season thing is utterly stupid. A break of a 2-3 weeks is enough for me to look forward to the return, but after a month I’ve mentally left it behind. When it’s that long, most people will either not know when the new shows are coming on (and miss it), or they’ll be hooked on another show at the same time and decide to just stop watching. But we all know how TV people don’t think like viewers. I’m surprised they have any success at all.
