  1. Better and Better
I should have probably included this in the original submission, but this was by far the best episode to date. The show continues to improve from week to week, and pretty much nailed the feel of the books this time out.

My only lingering complaints are the drumstick wand and the hockey stick staff. Could we please, for the love of all that’s holy, get a wizardly looking blasting rod and staff.

Well, the wand wet bye-bye this week… Here’s their chance to replace it.

Neither of these really bother me. My wife and I are currently reading thought the books. She actually loves the hocky stick. In her opinion it just fits with Harry’s sense of irrelevancy.

It’s not just that, but with the revelations about "The Council" this week, using more common props keeps people from realizing what they’re for. While it might be odd to see someone brandishing a drumstick (without drums) or a hockey stick (when not playing hocket), there’s no natural jump from those items to "Hey, he’s doing magic!" Now, he did wander around in public dangling a crystal, but the new age oddballs use crystals and most people consider those to be trinkets whose only power exists in the mind of the user.

I really enjoy the show and can’t wait until next week when we get to see how the "Dresden Reality" handles vampires.

Meh I don’t buy that at all. People seeing Harry with a wizard’s staff and blasting rod are going to assume exactly what they assume when he says he’s a wizard, that he’s either a fraud or nuts. Keep in mind he advertises in the freaking phone book as a wizard.

I’m hoping the writers are smart enough to keep all of the distinct vampire courts Jim came up with for the books and not dumb it down like they seem to have with the werewolves.

I accept that to some degree, but there’s a difference between allowing people to seek out someone who calls himself a "wizard" and advertising that status/belief as one walks around the real world. In other words, anyone who comes to him seeking his services as a wizard either already knows about the "reality" of magic or is just a woo-woo believer who he can sniff out and reveal as little or as much as necessary. In the case of Murphy and the police, it just seems to be that they consult him on "weird" stuff because even if they don’t believe in it he gets results.

Of course, I’m proceeding on no knowledge of the books and only what’s been on TV so far. I’m purposely maintaining that ignorance so that I can check out, and hopefully enjoy, the books on their own once the show’s been on for a while.

  2. The Music…
Was it my imagination, or was the music that was playing during the "break the chain" ritual, the song from The Crow?

    Thanks,
    k
