  1. Excellent Episode
There’s only one thing that really bothered me about this episode, and that was the introduction of another "hero" who in the space of one episode manages to create a confrontation (an admittedly desirable one) between multiple major characters. That change in pacing seemed a bit jarring to me, and almost seemed like a sop to those who contend that the story is moving along too slowly (a position which I understand, but with which I respectfully disagree).

I hope Claude "appears" again fairly quickly because Eccleston has been the bomb (ouch).

The absolute best part of the episode was the scene with Isaac, Peter and Simone – shocking and a big dose of what I think we want to see from Peter and the rest of the heroes (well, maybe not the end of the scene).

On the bus driver: It was inevitable. :)

      For great justice!

They’ve really set up next week’s show (the last of Feb sweeps) as a crucial episode. I think we’ll learn, as fans, whether we’re going to ever get answers, or just more MacGuffins. If they don’t satisfactorily answer something next week, they might as well had us a ticket to Lostville.

Agreed. The interaction between the two "heroes" was superb, and the ending was possibly the most shocking moment yet in the series. (Although, the whole "One will fly. One will die." tagline for the last few weeks proved a little misleading, since it wasn’t actually a hero that died.

Let’s be fair: How many of us figured – before that scene – that we’d been totally screwed over by the "one will die" turning out to just mean another Sylar victim? No, I was impressed that they actually came through with a main character – I expected much less. :)

That character was introduced a long time ago in NBC’s "graphic novel" that they have for heroes (See http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/novels/ ) of which there are now 21 issues. They are generally so-so, mainly retelling the plot of the previous episode or filling in gaps between episodes. Not too much info, but during that long Hiatus they introduced the "wireless" character, gave her backstory, and went into a lot more detail of her interaction with Ted.

I think it’s nice that NBC is using a lot of different media to push this show, and it seems to be working pretty well. They even have a Wiki on the site http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/wiki/ — but there is also a fan wiki at http://heroeswiki.com which has a lot of info as well.

I’m surprised they haven’t advertised their site a lot more.

Re: Simone, I wonder if Peter will discover that not only can he heal himself, but that he can heal others. He could tell Claire, and she could heal her mom, or perhaps she could discover it and tell Peter (but by then it may be too late for Simone, of course).

I suspect Peter will end up trying to go back in time to save Simone. Emphasis on "trying"

Which is why I stopped reading them.

Which sucks because of the above. You can’t (shouldn’t) turn users off by repeating stuff they’ve already seen, then introduce stuff they might want to know.

A nice and necessary attempt, but I wouldn’t say it’s working well, for the above reason.

I’m absolutely with you. The comics did nothing for me, so I stopped looking. If this is the direction TV wants to go (possibly, simply in order to get some additional viewer numbers on which to sell advertising), then it’ll be a while before I catch up. Apart from yakking on fora from work, I have no intention of experiencing supplemental TV via the Interwebs. Maybe, down the road, if there’s a PC handy at the couch, I’ll be able to get into it, but right now they just risk losing me if they do anything too egregious. This doesn’t fall into that category, especially now that it’s explained a bit.

It’s one of Wolverine’s great problems that his power can’t heal others. I don’t see why Bufferine’s power would be any different.

          Well, unless there’s a Rogue around. ;)

  2. peter vs Sylar
I love how they’re setting up Peter to be the counter to Sylar. Sylar is ahead, of course, and while he’s following Suresh around, he will probably stay ahead. It’s nice to see a "good" hero that has multiple powers and control of those powers.

Sylar is freakin me out. He is so evil and apparently a good enough actor to fool everyone. Of course, Suresh is a naive idiot as he has always been.

    • Re: peter vs Sylar

…Sylar is ahead, of course, and while he’s following Suresh around, he will probably stay ahead.

I’m not sure I’d put him ahead. Once he meets Peter again, Peter will "catch up" on abilities. Although, with the one Sylar gained this week, he might end up on the losing end because he won’t know how to deal with that power. Plus, Peter has some abilities that Syler doesn’t have, and he has an easier time of acquiring these abilities.

  3. Peter needs Krytonite
Ok, so now Peter’s got his power under control, as we see at the end.

Flying, telekinesis, invisibility, stopping time, regeneration, precognition. Cool.

Problem from a story standpoint is now he’s too powerful. No one could stand against him. Only Sylar comes close, and Peter already matches his main power of TK. If they ever come up against each other again, Peter sucks up any new powers Sylar’s obtained and squashes him like a bug.

They’re going to have to introduce some weakness, some Kryptonite to his Superman, some yellow energy to his Green Lantern.

    • Re: Peter needs Krytonite

They’re going to have to introduce some weakness, some Kryptonite to his Superman, some yellow energy to his Green Lantern.

They could go the path less taken and not have "evil" heroes per se, but have the Heroes go up against "non-hero" enemies and situations. Clearly no other person with abilities will be a match for Peter unless he has a weakness or limits to his powers are uncovered. He’s a good match for Sylar, but if Sylar ever truly is killed or neutralized then there will be a large imbalance.

I suppose they could turn out to be the Heroes version of Professor X and Magneto, so to speak. That is, if Magneto killed all his followers and ate their brains. :)

    • Re: Peter needs Krytonite

he’s too powerful…. If they ever come up against each other again, Peter sucks up any new powers Sylar’s obtained and squashes him like a bug.

They could easily "discover" some sort of energy expenditure limit or something (like chakra or the "zone-out" effect from The Sentinel). More likely, Suresh’s "cure" could come into play. Following genre staples, it could either be a one-time neutering or a routine neutralizing injection.

Sylar’s original power was that he could understand how stuff worked, wasn’t it? With that, he figured out what he needed to eat from a brain to gain that power. If Peter gained that, and learned how all his powers ‘work’, he could get even more powerful.

Peter’s also works by some link to the person (at least at first), because he would think of them when he used their power. What if once that person is gone, Peter can no longer borrow that power from them?

Also, did anyone else think Peter was going a bit psycho at the end? He seem a lot less good in that scene.

        • Re: Peter needs Krytonite

I think he was justifiably angry, but not psychotic. He had just started to make real progress toward not destroying NYC, and Isaac–in effect–took that from him.

      • Re: Peter needs Krytonite

A cure would defeat the purpose of the show, and an energy limit would make a lot of sense, though they’re obviously ignoring energy consumption issues already… but I think a cure would make the show a lot less interesting.

        • Re: Peter needs Krytonite

Perhaps you’re assuming everyone would take/be given the cure. I could see Parkman or Ted giving up their powers (prior to this ep, anyway), but would you voluntarily give up mutant healing, flying, or (controllable) invisibility? It’s cliche, but the normals wanting to neuter the heroes could be far from boring. Too bad Simone won’t get to go to the press.

          • Re: Peter needs Krytonite

Too bad Simone won’t get to go to the press.

Actually, that’s a good point, and actually makes it a disappointing development, because it solved the problem too easily. Still, it definitely came from an "unexpected" direction…

    • Re: Peter needs Krytonite

I just remembered something: A limit may have already been implied, because how else would he have the scar the Future Hiro mentioned? ( http://heroeswiki.com/Peter%27s_scar )

Unless that timeline has already been altered because Peter saved Claire, thus getting close to her and absorbing her powers.

For those dreading the "easy way out," just wait for Isaac to once again paint the future. Now that he can apparently focus on specific people and places, this is how we’re going to find out that everything’s different, followed of course by the season-ending cliffhanger painting showing the next big crisis…hopefully just on the one Earth, of course…

    • Re: Peter needs Krytonite

They’ve established that he can overdose from absorbing too much power. That’s a start.

  4. mindwipe possible?
The thought just occurred to me: could Claire’s mind even be wiped? I know nothing of brain functioning, but if the wipes *can* cause injury, maybe they work *as* injuries. How would that work with Claire, especially given the whole tree branch in the skull incident?

  5. Question…
When Peter throws Isaac across the room, he yelled something like "Stop lying to me"… and it came out in the "push"-voice like whats-her-face who could control people with words.

When did he ever meet her? Did he bump into her at Suresh’s apartment and I just forgot? (looks over shoulder for the Haitian).

    • Re: Question…

He could have been in proximity to her and the Hatian when he was at the school saving Claire. They were nearby capturing Sylar while he was on the ground "dead". Which could also mean he has the Hatian’s powers, but doesn’t know it yet.

That would be pushing it a bit, wouldn’t it? So far, he’s only begun manifesting an ability when someone is in very close proximity, so there’s been no evidence so far of a more remote absorption. I’m sure people could go back to be sure (as is my tradition, my copy was deleted from Tivo immediately after viewing), but I suspect that the voice change was just a function of rage and not an expression of another power.

I’m inclined to agree with you on that one. I was merely offering an explanation for how that could have happened, if that turns out to be the case
