I agree. My hope is the other Daleks look at it for about ten seconds, and shout ‘Abomination!’ and blow it up, and then go about their evil Dalek lives.

We can but hope. The idea a Dalek/Human hybrid sounded to me like quite a scary thing to me. A man with a squid on his head wasn’t that.
In other news: Terry Nation’s rotating corpse is now being used to generate electricity.
As I understand it the BBC have only a three year right to have Daleks in Doctor Who (as that’s all they agreed with the estate of Terry Nation). I do hope this isn’t some way to keep the Daleks without that.

Egad. Is that why there’s been so much Dalek overload? Looking at the way Eccleston reacted to seeing one in that collector’s basement, and then how the Doctor react to seeing them now; it’s as if he’s not even afraid of them anymore – just mildly peeved… "Wot, _them_ again?"

Squid-man was a bit of an anti-climax, wasn’t he? Especially considering the original people of Skarro were humanoid, with two eyes, etc. I guess they didn’t want to make the humanoid Dalek look too much like one of the Ood. Now the Ood, there was a good-looking squid head, as far as squid heads go.
In other news: Terry Nation’s rotating corpse is now being used to generate electricity.
Man I hope when I croak someone at least notices. :)

I’ve enjoyed the first four episodes. In particular the New New New New New New New York. I like Martha, quite a bit, she’s not Rose Lite, and I’m enjoying a return to the more campy, bang-up style of the Tom Baker series. It’s a light, enjoyable hour wherein the world is (usually) imperiled and saved. As JWW pointed out a few weeks ago with the series premier review, it’s nice having a TV show that’s a bit more relaxed from week to week than BSG.
My only quibble with this episode, other than the poor makeup, was the horrible Tennessee accent. :) I was playing Spot the Yank/Canadian with the New Yorkers (except for the black fellow, who just couldn’t seem to get his mouth wrapped around some of the dialogue,) but the kid from Tennessee … Um. As penance, whoever cast him needs to be sat down in front of five episodes of "The Andy Griffin Show".
Yes, it was as bad as most Yanks’ unspeakably sad attempt at a sterotypical British accent, "wot wot, guvnor."
Aside from that, we usually say Missouri like misery, only the accent is on the second syllable. miSERy, or miSERuh. I’ve never heard someone from the U.S. say miSORy. :)
The production was excellent. I’m not entirely certain they didn’t shoot some of the scenes on location, in particular the Statue of Liberty and Central Park.

Not THAT disappointed I have to say I’m not that disappointed it the storyline for this one. I do certainly hope the Human-Daleks don’t go anywhere beyond this storyline however, as I think they’re ill conceived (however, not due to the plot, but by the Daleks in the story actually).
I think they could do really interesting things in part two including having the Doctor team up with one (or more ) of the Daleks to destroy the Human-Daleks. That would be interesting.
On another note, why is there a 3 year limit to the use of Daleks in the show? Shouldn’t the BBC be the copyright owner of everything, indlucing all uses of the Daleks in the old show? If not, this is one of the first times I think I would ever see a use for a "big bad corporation" owning the rights to an artists work, instead of the artist retaining it themselves. Scary thought, that.

I see the heavy use of Daleks as being a build-up to the return of the Time Lords. If we think Daleks are being over-used, wait til the Master comes back. :/
The thing is, the Daleks are excellent bad guys. They look goofy with their rubber plungers, but when you put enough of them together they’re extremely deadly. I think Davies is getting the balance of evil repeat characters versus evil minor characters about right.

Hmm…. I remain unconvinced.
If I ignore the really crap looking hybrid which to be honest looked terrible even for a Dr Who bad guy, the idea behind it was okay (not good, just okay) and I could see that sect of Dalek trying something like this but the execution was less than sterling… I can only hope the second part somehow makes it better, that being said the preview did not fill me with hope.
