“Spider-Man 3” slaughters at the box office

Variety is reporting that Spider-Man 3 has an estimated weekend gross of 148.0 million dollars US in its three day weekend (with Sunday numbers unlikely to change that total much, given the quality of estimates used nowadays.) The estimate for the second place film, Disturbia, is a mere 5.7 million dollars in comparison. With 4,252 engagements (probably with over 10,000 prints), this isn’t very surprising, and is probably only one of several records it’ll break according to Box Office Mojo, including opening day grosses, and opening weekend grosses.

  1. It was good.
In many ways it was better than the first two. I had some complaints of course, like the fact that Venom does not say "we" but "I". Irritating and no good reason for it.

My other complaint is well documented in reviews I think. The nightclub scene. I hated it with a passion. The person who thought it up, and all involved, should be flogged for it. Had NO place in that film. The AICN guy complained also about the strutting down the street thing, but you know, I thought it was funny. It didn’t last long, and it was sort of a Peter Parker geeky thing to do when under the influence of a parasite like Venom. But then it went to the nightclub scene and went waaaaay too far. Oh and I should mention the related complaint. I dunno, the emo parker thing just irritated me. I dunno why.

That didn’t ruin the movie for me though, other than that I really enjoyed it. Great movie.

      Great movie.

Well, I have never been ""into comics"" but my wife has been all her life. So I know what I felt as an ""outsider"" and what she and my other comic-versed friends felt.

As an outsider, I liked the movie. It was worth going to the theater to see. -And from ME that is HIGH praise. I have an excellent home theater and I am irritated by crowds. Spidiey3 got me out into the crowds and I didn’t mind once it was all done. – I too, was irritated at the jazzclub bit, but I didn’t think it went on so long as to deserve a ""flogging"".
The action sequences were some of the best ever fimled IMHO. And that is why I liked it. As I mentioned, I usually enjoy a movie more in my own home, but the grand scope of some of these shots were enought to make me glad I was at the big-screen.

My wife and other comic-fan friends were not as pleased with it as I was, but they were happy. They felt number 2 was better, and that this one was crippled with trying to do too much from a character standpoint. And they railed and ranted and wined about the strutting-down-the-street bit. But for some reason though, they didn’t mention the club bit at all.

So, if you’re looking for a popcorn-munchin’ action flick; put this on the top of your list. If you’re a comic fan in general, put this high on your list. If yo’re looking for a sequal to French Kiss… this aint it. (Unless you’re looking because you thing Meg Ryan is hot… In which case put this on the VERY top of your list ’cause Kirsten Dunst is hotness personified)
