Weekly Comics Discussion – May 9, 2007

As usual, the complete list is here.

Dark Horse Comics

  • STAR WARS DARK TIMES #3 (of 5)
  • STAR WARS LEGACY #11

DC Comics

  • COUNTDOWN #51 – 52 stayed on schedule through a massive editor shift, so I expect Countdown will as well.
  • FRIDAY THE 13TH
  • GREEN ARROW #74
  • GREEN LANTERN CORPS #12
  • GREEN LANTERN CORPS VOL 1 TO BE A LANTERN TP – Collecting issues 1-6. This is a decent title, well satisfying the “interstellar cop” premise, with a fair amount of attention for Guy Gardener.
  • JACK OF FABLES #10
  • NIGHTWING #132
  • Y THE LAST MAN #56

Marvel Comics

  • AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #540
  • ANNIHILATION SAGA – Presumably this cheap title is a recap of the existing “Annihilation” titles that prepare the unfamiliar for the next few miniseries.
  • BLACK PANTHER #27 – Part of the Initiative
  • CIVIL WAR FRONT LINE BOOK 2 – Books one and two were reviewed here.
  • CIVIL WAR PETER PARKER SPIDER-MAN – These unreviewed issues collect “Sensational Spider-Man #28-34,” covering the story arcs published under the “Spider-Man Unmasked!” banner. These are some great Spider-Man stories, well worth checking out.
  • CRIMINAL VOL 1 COWARD – If you only get one TPB this week, get this one. It’s not sci-fi or fantasy in any way, so we won’t formally review it here, but it’s a great crime comic written by Ed Brubaker.
  • ESSENTIAL FANTASTIC FOUR VOL 6
  • ETERNALS BY NEIL GAIMAN HC
  • GHOST RIDER #11 – This must wrap up the Civil War crossover that isn’t listed on any official checklist, because the next issue starts the “World War Hulk” crossover. I’ll review this whole set shortly, and probably do the recap article right afterwards instead of waiting for “Fallen Son” and the “crossover” in “Moon Knight” to finish.
  • IMMORTAL IRON FIST #5 – More Brubaker goodness.
  • NEW AVENGERS #30 – Revealing the identity of the new Ronin. My guess (under spoiler guard): Jessica Jones, the superpowered character not familiar enough with teamwork to get the banter, is also a good candidate for the source of the off-panel “protect my child” comments in issue 29. After all, the child was last seen running to Canada with Jessica and without Luke, so if he’s concerned about his kid, she must have brought the kid back.
  • NEW X-MEN #38
  • NOVA #2 – I really enjoyed issue one. Part of the Initiative crossover.
  • PUNISHER WAR JOURNAL #7 – Part of the Initiative.
  • SPIDER-MAN FANTASTIC FOUR #2 (OF 4) – Rumoured to be a lot of fun.
  • THUNDERBOLTS #114 – Part of the Initiative.
  • ULTIMATE POWER #5 (OF 9) – This has also been enjoyable.

  1. I was wrong today
Yes, I was wrong guessing Ronin today based on the preview art pages. Had you asked me to guess before the preview art hit the web a few weeks ago, I’d have been right, though.

  2. Bwaahahaaa!
    DOUBLE STAR WARS!!!!

    I’m in heaven…

Of course, they’re taking their sweet time with the Dark Times series.
