Premise

Modeled after the “bargaining” stage of grief, Clint Barton faces off against Tony Stark, demanding to know what’s being done about the death of Steve Rogers.

High Point

“C’mon. You think that because I was dead I haven’t read a newspaper?”

Low Point

Tony’s reaction to seeing Clint. That’s not what Clint would have done.

The Scores

This is as original as the rest of the series. The concept is great, though the execution can be a bit predictable. I give it 4 out of 6.

The artwork is classic JR, Jr. Hollowell’s colours are as strong as they were in Civil War, and Janson is a great inker. The art is emotive, and still subtle. I give it 5 out of 6.

The story is all in place, though you’d think that these characters would be more used to characters coming back from the dead by now. I give it 5 out of 6.

The characterization is strong, though Tony seems to be even more of a jerk than he’s been painted lately. He and Clint have been close for a long time, so I don’t see him handling Clint’s reappearance in exactly this manner. I give it 4 out of 6.

The emotional response is good. There’s genuine interest in the characters, and an interesting story being told. I give it 5 out of 6.

The flow is very good. Apart from the one moment I’ve now mentioned a few times, it’s a fairly continuous plot, taking place in only two or three specific scenes. I give it 5 out of 6.

Overall, it’s a decent chapter in the story, though some aspects can only be judged against how they fit into the complete picture, which hasn’t quite finished yet. (The series will wrap in June.) I give it 4 out of 6.

In total, Fallen Son – The Death of Captain America: Captain America receives 32 out of 42.
